Because in reality the expiration date is only a suggested shelf life. The product doesn't know to just stop working on a given date. It's honestly one of the biggest scams to get people to buy a new product based on an expiration date. I work in supply chain and see so many items get tossed because of an expiration date. From a Harvard study: "90% of more than 100 drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, were perfectly good to use even 15 years after the expiration date." (https://www.health.harvard.edu/st...20to%20use.) YMMV

I thought we were allowed to give our opinion on whether a product was good or not.
I think that's still ok, they just want to nix the political BS. I think everyone knows the antigen tests are not perfect. But it's better than nothing, and you already paid for it.

Why are they allowed to call their product a COVID test if it cannot differentiate from other respiratory illnesses. Makes sense to name it what it is a respiratory illnesses test.
I think they misunderstand the wording. It detects the COVID antigen specifically, it does not detect the antigens of the other viruses. This is why it's not a respiratory illness test, because it does not test for the antigens of other viruses.

The virus load wasn't high enough for the cheapie test to see it likely.
Not cheap. Just is the only feasible test a home user can do…

I tried a few of these, they were not accurate, 1 said positive the other said negative. i tried it in my dog and got the same similar mixed results.
If you get one positive, you're most likely positive, they rarely have false positives, but often have false negatives afaik. That's why they say to get a PCR if you test positive.

I'm glad they are bringing the mailed test kits back! A lot of my friends have gotten Covid recently.

Nothing is free…Everything comes with a cost..Thank a taxpayer for your kits….
You paid for it, why not get what you paid for, it's certainly cheaper this way than paying out of pocket. It probably cost you fractions of a penny per test via taxes vs $20 at CVS. That's why it's a deal lol.

Saw this on the news recently, and I knew that it would be an instant SD classic. Anyhow, I recently ran out of these kits and most definitely take advantage of this again.

PCR tests absolutely do not confirm infection, they confirm exposure. You can see and be exposed to a million dollars, but did you get a million dollars? Very different. It's detection is similar to that of the PPD test for tuberculosis. Big reason why the pharmaceutical companies were able to drum up all the hysteria.
PCR tests test for the RNA (genetic material) of the virus. If it's positive, you have a high enough virus load to pass the threshold of the test. I think you're taking about antigen testing, which is far less reliable. The at home tests and some rapid clinic tests are antigen tests. PCR tests are performed by a lab.

Free? Yeah right. Everyone's paying with tax dollars
Hey, a fraction of a penny per test in my taxes vs $20 at CVS qualifies as a deal to me.

Can the OG kits still detect the new variants? Or do we all have to re-up and get the new batch of free ones?

I think they do, but don't quote me on that. They may be less reliable than the new ones though.
