Because in reality the expiration date is only a suggested shelf life. The product doesn't know to just stop working on a given date. It's honestly one of the biggest scams to get people to buy a new product based on an expiration date. I work in supply chain and see so many items get tossed because of an expiration date. From a Harvard study: "90% of more than 100 drugs, both prescription and over-the-counter, were perfectly good to use even 15 years after the expiration date." (https://www.health.harvard.edu/st...20to%20use.) YMMV

At home tests should help prevent spread and reduce hospital strain and costs.

Some people test too soon. The PCR test is more sensitive so it will usually pick it up first.
True but we followed the test every alternate day method. Throughout the infection all brands failed, the orange one, Abbot and a third one in blue packaging. (Do not have receipts handy at the moment)

why do multiple tests over longer periods of time yield a positive test result?
At the early stages of infection, you could have 1 single virus in your system. The tests will likely not detect that. As the virus multiplies in your body over the next few days, then it gets all over your body, in your nose, etc. When you swab your nose, then you'll likely get the virus on the swab.

These are pretty useless. I know of multiple people who ended up with Covid and for all of them the kit showed negative. Only a PCR test confirmed the infection.
They're not useless. Covid tests do eventually work. For me, it was day three of having symptoms. That's when my body had the antigens.

Of course the PCR test is the gold standard, but not all antigen tests are created equal. Roche and QuickVue tests have higher detection rates while the brand that starts with an "A" and is readily available in pharmacies has one of the lowest detection rate. It really depends on your use case.
You can find this information on the FDA website.

People probably were too young to know that for the longest time there were no expiration dates on pharmaceuticals! It's more regulation so most everyone keeps buying new product. SMH.

There is such a horrible virus out there that you have to take a test to see if you have it. An I missing anything?
There are other disease with similar symptoms, especially early on. But different diseases have different treatment options and different prognosis. If you identify COVID early and treat it correctly, it may save your life, or save you from a lifetime of complications (long covid). It may also save someone else's life because you aren't taking up valuable space being hospitalized, which is one of the reasons why the government is paying for it.

"However, at-home COVID-19 antigen tests are generally expected to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus at least 80% of the time when someone is infected." It also says, to keep testing if negative, cause they want you to get that false positive and help bump up their fake numbers lol
No, it's because the false negative rate is much higher than the false positive rate.

CDC tracks Influenza Like Illnesses (ILI) every season. The 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons had were nearly a flat line for influenza as if nothing happened. Every year before that influenza was spiking. Are they renaming Influenza to Covid?
It's because social distancing and masks work for the flu too.

These tests are worthless, had a fever 3 nights in a row, runny nose, glands hurt in the throat, and sore throat and these tests show negative. If I don't have COVID than what I have is way worse
Have you gotten tested for flu? There are also many other possibilities like strep throat.

"Results from this studyExternal Link Disclaimer show that repeat testing over a longer timeframe improves test performance and increases the likelihood that an at-home COVID-19 antigen test will detect an infection." Did you click on the link? Be honest. Did you read the study and if you did, did you have any questions that sound, well, elementary? For example, why do multiple tests over longer periods of time yield a positive test result? If you're not laughing, I hope you're crying. This is terrible that this is being passed off as an acceptable explanation.
Multiple tests may yield a positive result because the false negative rate is much higher than the false positive rate, mainly by design.
