The P31 1TB is $49.99 and the 500GB is $30.99.

I know no one has a crystal ball, but how likely are prices for Gen3 SSDs like this to fall further? I'm specifically looking for Gen3 SSDs to upgrade in some older laptops that only support Gen3, and I've read that this P31 model is the best for use in a laptop as it runs cooler. Not in a rush to upgrade so I can wait longer if it's likely that prices will fall further. I'm not sure if there's a price trend difference in the market for Gen3 vs Gen4 SSDs, where perhaps prices on Gen4 ones are more likely to fall further, but Gen3 ones may not if the supply for each are different?

Well, funny you ask...

Also, remember: wattage at max performance is a decent indicator of heat (and battery drain). I believe the Solidigm drive on sale for $62 from Newegg (also via Walmart) and Amazon is a low wattage NVMe.

I have been waiting for these to go on sale again. This is one of the best gen 3 drives for a laptop. Very low power draw and heat. It would also be great in a NVME usb enclosure to use as a portable drive.

The thing is, this gen 3 drive is sometimes faster than gen 4 drives all while using less power and producing less heat in applications, not synesthetic benchmarks. And when gen 4 drives beat it, its usually a fraction of a second or a couple seconds difference in real world usage.

p31 is in this list

Bad, flawed and faulty example but based on gpus prices stagnate and don't lower besides sales. Iirc 5 years ago prices were $20 128gb $30 250gb $50 500gb. It takes time getting cheaper and stock from the first party supplier runs out eventually.

Hynix quickly brought the price back up to make it seem like it was a "great" deal.

They want you to make you feel like you missed out so when they have this deal again at the exact same price, you will immediately buy it.

Manipulation at its finest.

Meh I bought it and figured I can sit on it for a while before installing it to see if something better comes along. I recently purchased a SER6 MAX from Beelink and figure that a cool running drive is best for a minipc in general, and I wanted TLC and DRAM. Speed is the least of my concerns.
