I'm hoping someone can help. I brought 4 phones to Verizon through a BYOD deal 4 months ago. That gives me $15 off a month. So each line is $20 ($35-$15). Unfortunately, Verizon has been a nightmare. I've spent over 100 hours on the phone with them sorting out time of errors on their end plus they couldn't activate one of the phones, sent me a refurbished device, and then erroneously charged me for it after I shipped out perfectly fine phone back.

Fast forward to last week when that refurbished phone they gave me had a portion of the screen stop working. They told me it only had a 3 month warranty. So it's either $300 to fix it or I could upgrade the phone. If I upgrade, that automatically costs me around $540 for the BYOD deal since they'll remove that. If I buy a new line, my daughter has to lose her number.

Question: is there really no way to keep her number if I buy a new phone? It seems I either keep the phone that doesn't work (which makes no sense) or get a new phone and automatically lost $15/month on the bill. Would love to hear any ideas on how to solve the problem without losing that 3 year credit!

The main issue is VZ Customer Care - they are absolutely nightmare based on what I gather in this thread

Have had no issues with T-Mobile - even their foreign customer service has improved in recent time

I've been with the same provider for 20 years. A 3 year contract wouldn't bother me.

Port the number out to another carrier, you will lost BYOD credit,

do this deal and get a new number with VZ and 3 years credit.

Port it back in after the cool down period,

research how long is the cool down periods and see if that's acceptable

You get $23/mo in credits… so, you would lose $275 if you cancel with 12 months left…
Yes that's exactly it.

You lose $275 in credit but regain it back when you sign another 36 month trade in deal as opposed to waiting until your phone is fully paid off and worth half in a trade in.

36 month "contracts" are the devil - way worse than the older contracts, forces you to baby a $1k phone for 3 years instead of 2

Now if i lost more than 70-80% of my credit by terminating the deal and paying it off i wouldnt do it

Actually..the prepaid AT&T plans have the same priority as the postpaid plans. To my knowledge, it's the only prepaid from any carrier or MVNO where that is the case. There's basically no difference in quality of service apart from fringe roaming in remote regions that you will likely never go to being a bit better on postpaid. Roaming in remote areas certainly not worth paying 3x for monthly.
I'm a few years out of the loop, but when I ran an AT&T the network prioritization was pretty clear.

Firstnet, Businesses, consumer postpaid, consumer prepaid, Cricket and the rest.

I'm happy you're experiencing great service on a low price plan, but your experience doesn't represent the priority put in place.

Can you call and order if your local CostCo doesn't have this deal? I see on the link that it says:

Call 800-714-2002 to purchase, or upgrade your phone while taking advantage of your exclusive Costco Member Benefit.

I have a few questions would appreciate some help:

Can I go in with a friend who has Costco membership or do I need my own?

Do I need to bring the used old iPhones for trade in to the Costco or will they be mailed in later?

Do they also have the pro max or is this gift card deal just for the 15 and 15 pro? I want the pro max …

Would they be able to add on my student discount for 2 lines there as well?

Thanks for any help!

Anyone know if all of this can stack with the FIOS discounts? I was thinking of moving 3 lines from TMO anyway..

Thanks, to me the $250 new line Costco card is more attractive than the phone offer. $30 a line for the best VZW plan is good stuff. Best coverage here in NY.

I understand 2 years, since they are in the business of making money, but 3 year contracts on any service is just insanity.
how often are you switching carriers for this to matter? I've been with verizon for almost a decade and don't see myself going anywhere anytime soon. I have no anxiety over paying a phone off over 3 years. I have bigger things to worry about than this.
