I bought iPhone 5's from eBay for about $30 each and traded them in.
The Costco Verizon somehow only give trade in up to $830 but it is with the unlimited plus. That happens to be what I want anyway so that's ok.

To get the $1000 you need to get unlimited ultimate which is $10 more than unlimited plus. So for $10 more per month, you get $170 more rebate - ie after 1.5 years you're losing money.
So the ultimate plus is actually the better of the 2.

That's why I gave up at Costco, they or their system didn't work in the same way with Verizon.com, even if they were able to see my old phone was eligible from their offer details. I had no problem to add iPhone 4 with $830 trade-in when I did online myself. I didn't get $250 from Costco in 90 days but I was able to proceed with trade-in iPhone 4, plus another $300/36 months through "my offers".

I went to Edison nj Costco and they were able to take my iPhone 5's and 7 to get $830 trade in each.
The rep said they take anything from iPhone 3 up for trade in.

Exactly, that's what they suppose to do, but unfortunately it didn't work for my local Costco.

Shoot. I was trying to find out more of what Costco had to offer for Verizon and couldn't, so I ported directly over to Verizon on their website. I lost out on the $250 gift card

Name a plan that is $1200 cheaper over 3 years with Verizon. That's a $33 difference. I'm paying $42 a month for an unlimited plan and a device payment for an iPhone 15 pro with them. That would mean I would have to find a plan that costs $9 a month. I'd have to go ultra sketchy like red phone to find something like that. Yeah, I'm fine with my 3 years on Verizon.

I don't know if anyone knows this but will the trade-in work if the phone doesn't have a sim card? I have an ancient iphone 5 I was using as an ipod and I took the sim card out a long time ago and don't know where it is. Should that matter?

Even though I have the Tmobile grandfathered SC plan, it was 2 lines for $100, which was not cheap by any means. However, throughout the years, Tmobile provided free lines to the plan and now I have 10 lines for $100 + tax. So if you stay with TMO and keep an eye on the free line offers, it's worth it at the end.

You don't need the phone to be on a service to work as a trade-in.

That shouldn't matter, but I couldn't get my iPhone 5 to receive the $830 credit. If you are able to, let me know. And no, you don't need the sim to work

That's great and all, but that's definitely not easy or accessible to everyone. Also, it basically puts you on par with me as far as getting a new phone. You have to pay full price, and stretched across 3 years, we end up paying the same amount. Is that SC plan unlimited (I'm not familiar with it)

It's unlimited. What I'm saying is you don't need to get on an old plan to get the value. Here Verizon vs. Tmobile. I have never seen Verizon giving away free lines. If you have to get the iphone15 then go with Tmobile, even if the Go5G is not cheap. Down the road you'll be able to get free lines.

Personally I could care less about 3 years contract. Been on Tmo for more than a decade so 3 yrs is nothing. But the no-sim tray kills it for me.
