Panny makes great players. This model does not have Dolby vision capability, FYI.

Of my nearly 500 4k discs, over 40% have DV.

Only 13 have HDR10+.

This is the one downside for me. It's a shame the prices on their higher end players don't really budge. I've got DV on my primary TV and I've seen the difference it makes over standard HDR10 so I definitely need a dedicated player to support it.

Dolby Vision is significantly better than HDR10/HDR10+. It's far more than a name slapped on. Lol. That's a ridiculous assessment. Dolby Vision is the future.
All it means is it has a variable hdr meta data and designed to go over 1000 nits unlike the regular hdr10 that has fixed data.

I agree with the earlier comment that the transfer is the most important thing to start with.

Question: Do 4K players go on sale for Black Friday? I'm trying to hold off until then but only if the price drop is worth waiting for.

I like to own physical copies of CDs and Blu Rays still but... man those menus and intros are so sluggish and slow and can't skip them. super annoying.
Probably deliberate to push people to streaming for increased profit margins and no resale potential.

I got the Sony x700 for $99 a few BFs ago. They even gave me a $18 credit to get my own HDMI cable since the listing insists that one is included...but it isnt.

They do but very infrequently. There's not a lot of competition.

It has no Dolby vision, a very important feature if you are really into blue ray and care about quality

That's what I was trying to figure out. That's wrong info. Maybe it's trying to catch/trick people with notifications for that player.
Very sorry for the confusion - that was a mistake. I copied the deal format from a deal for that 4K player and thought I updated those.

I would wait until the 420 (if your TV doesn't support Dolby Vision) goes on sale for $200 or open box for less. I got mine last year for $170 open box and it looked brand new.

The 820 supports Dolby Vision, but is almost $500.

Excellent video on optimizing the video settings on the 420/820/9000:

So wait for a DV version or just pay the extra for a PS 5?
