Before anyone chimes in on a $100 Monoprice strat copy being as good, they're not unless you put $250 into it. But you'll always have a guitar that is worth $50 on the used market.

You can always sell this 2 years from now for what you paid for it or more.

This is a deal for a solid guitar. The quality and resale value make it great buy.

I've bought those Mono strats. Anyone who says they're on par with a MIM is full of shit. They're on par with a Squier Bullet at best. We get it, you're broke. Nothing wrong with that. But to try to preach this nonsense is absurd.

My question is explicitly about using "Rocksmith" with this guitar, which I have not seen mentioned anywhere in this thread.
It's an electric guitar. It'll work the same as any other electric guitar! A better question is if you have a compatible audio interface for Rocksmith. They sell a USB cable.. but you could also use something like a scarlet 2i2.

As long as the guitar holds its tune it shouldn't really matter much which guitar you use. This one should definitely be able to hold its tune.

This would more than get the job done.

The kids and I got started with Rocksmith with $60 Monoprice guitars. As long as you are willing to file off the fret sprout they work great for Rocksmith.

Yea and the fun thing here is, spending $600 or $1800 or $2500 on a Fender doesn't guarantee you won't receive a guitar with fret sprout or rough fret edges either. I wish it did! Then it'd be easier for me to feel good about spending that much on a guitar! Applause

I've spent $2000 on an American Ultra and I've spent $249 on a Squier 40th. No fret sprout on either. I haven't seen sharp edges on a Fender in forever except dirt cheap junk like Affinity or Bullets.

I ordered a fender strat several years ago. It's a great guitar but I find it hard to tune with the, I believe it's called a floating bridge. You tune a string, and by the time you tune the rest and come back to the other strings they're out of tune already. The strings are also maybe a touch high. Is there any workaround for the tuning issues, and also where do you guys recommend going to get it set up nice. I live in the north east.

Yeah, but the couple monoprices I picked up are like razor wire if you run your fingers down the fretboard.

I've tried a LOT of guitars at this point. IMO these are the only models and only price where it makes sense to buy a new fender guitar. American series is comically overrated, custom shop is absurdly priced, and I personally really didn't like the Player Plus. If you want a nicer Fender, get it used. You'll get a better deal, and usually a better guitar.

If you want a Fender, you want a Fender. You're probably not in the market for the best value per dollar. Not hating on Fender, I have 3 right now. Most of their products are just wildly overpriced. This is a good guitar for a reasonable price, and one of the few models I've hung onto. My other 2 Fender models are Road Worn MIM, and they are truly something else, but you can't get those anymore.
This is the sweet spot for SURE. You can get a guitar that has Alnico pickups, solid hardware and a solid brand. A beautiful workhorse that you'd never have to upgrade really.

Just take it to your music store and pay for a set up. (call around, prices vary widely)
They can set the saddles so the intonation is good and adjust the action to play without buzzes. They can also check for fret issues so doing it right away can help you decide if you need to return it for some odd major flaw.

It might cost $30-100 for a setup depending on where you are. The place I go used to charge 35 now they charge 65 :-/

I sort of regret buying a bunch of guitars, I have to change more strings than I'd care to. The joy I get from owning 10 is only 1-3% higher than the joy I got from owning 1 all set up with fairly perfect intonation up the neck.

Yes, you tune the heavy strings a little sharp, so when you're done tuning all the strings, the lower strings are pulled into tune. Either that, or you can block the trem (YouTube it) so the trem doesn't move.

When tuning with a floating trem, the trem moves when you tune, putting everything out of tune as you continue tightening the strings.

After getting a squier affinity and using it for almost a year.... I think the "floating trems are a pain in the butt to tune and keep tuned" thing is a bit overblown. Like, way overblown.

You could always deck or block the trem to eliminate movement. Decking is screwing the trem springs tighter to bring the bridge flush with the body. This requires resetting the intonation and saddle height becauseit offsets the pivot point. Blocking is just fabricating a wood block that fits perfectly between the back of the trem block and the body to prevent movement. I prefer blocking because it's less invasive (just pull the block out and you have a floating trem again). I have one Strat blocked and one floating.

Preach! I had one guitar for a long time, the problem was I hated it because it had a floyd rose (which are NOT beginner friendly, but I thought I'd use it when I was younger). Then I started hunting for the right guitar to replace it. That hunt is basically over at this point, mostly because I realized what I wanted couldn't really be achieved with a single guitar.

Every now and then I get the urge to just sell all but one guitar and go back to a simple life. That's just a fleeting dream though. Closest I've gotten to one guitar that does everything I need is an Ibanez s621qm, which is bizarre because the fretwork out of the box was terrible and I hated the pickups. Something about the lightweight body and playability of the neck just makes me pick it up though. Spec wise, it wasn't at all what I was looking for, but I got it to fulfill a need and it kind of stuck.

Agreed. Floyd rose? Those are pain to re-tune. They stay in tune pretty damn well though. A standard strat trem isn't too bad to maintain. Certainly nowhere near as trivial to maintain as a fixed bridge though. I never use the whammy bar, but I still keep my strats floating because that's how they arrived and I can't be bothered to lay the bridge flat. It just means you have to do 3~4 passes over the strings when tuning after re-stringing instead of ~2. Nothing "difficult" about that. Changing tunings is a different beast though.

I've had 4 of these, 2 teles and 2 strats. I think they are great! I sold them because I thought I needed an American strat.
I've had great QC on all the various Fender MIM's I've bought over the years... a Classic Player Triple Tele, HS DuoSonic, SS DuoSonic, HSS Strat.... the one SSS American Pro Strat I had had major QC issues, including a busted pickup (LOL how does it ship like that?)
