I bought the 3/4 dreadnought for my 8 year old nephew. I would not recommend unless you're comfortable doing fret work. The neck profile is a chunky oval, which is odd for such a small guitar. The tuners kinda bad too. I did a fret level, crown and polish, filed nut slots, lowered saddle, and reglued nut, to get it playable.

You don't really expect much at $50, but I was a little surprised that Adorama would house-brand such a poor quality product. I've bought other house-branded products from them like their lighting kits that were great.

Monoprice has a full sized Dreadnought with solid spruce top, not just spruce laminate top. That's supposed to be a big deal. It goes on sale regularly for about $59.99. Said to be back in stock in about 2 week.

It has great reviews and sound. I left some links on the last deal post about it. When mine arrives I will report more.

I did see some reports about limited build quality concerns on the Boroughs; that I could have bought for just $46. I did like the head stock shape on the Boroughs; but the MP was fine. I went with the solid top $60 MP and their good return policy; should there be any a problem with the guitar.

Whether or not a new online guitar is arriving with pro setup or some more setup required is not the same thing as a flawed or crappy guitar. And price does not determine setup level. Know what setup level is promised before you buy. Seek buyer reports; but disregard those you can not verify. In any case; a seller known for easy returns is likely doing what they promised. Else they'd loose money on returns.

Other guitar quality and your choices are best considered apart from setup; because a great guitar may need setup or get fret spout when new.

And just to be clear; the lowest cost guitars are typically coming with better mid level setup than expensive guitars (new specifically, with the setup level not specified).

Keep in mind the Monoprice DLX models (several "DNA" style types) go on sale for $120 with typically comparable matching high cost materials(Ash etc..not necessarily better) and also are STATED to be setup by a pro. if that's what you need, and remember they weight more.

I'd watch eBay and finish polishing my own frets for the win. You do not have to do that. Just remember; setup is not the guitars quality. Unless it can't be setup well. Send those back. If a $10 nut (Or you prefer a TUISQ nut anyway) and that's the only issue (for setup in balance) then it's your call. Because it's low cost and you could still have the best total value. And it's your option to return it for any reason, with an honest seller.

And errors occasionally happen for any price level, per each guitar.

Research seller policy, setup promised (separately) and all the product details first. Because you only want to send things back when they need to go back. And never keep anything needing to go back.

Some things to know about buying a cheaper laminate (plywood) guitar like this is that they usually don't resonate as much (so they aren't as loud or sustained), and their sound won't improve over time as it can with solid wood. That said, if it sounds good, it will stay that way, and you will have fewer problems with humidity levels.

I much prefer playing solid top or all solid acoustics, but I did have one laminate that sounded really good. Kind of regret giving it away. It was an Ibanez performance model dreadnought.

I bought the 20 model (full size) for $43. It sounds good to me. Full bass resonance. It's not perfect but it's a damn nice beater for $43. I have no fret drama with it. It's fine. I may sand down the bridge to lower action a bit but it's not too bad. It's a cheap guitar thar plays pretty well

It may be higher now as I think the classic version is $50 something now. Check codes and maybe a year end sale $65 or less will come again. Prices may fall 🍂🍁.

I'm looking to buy one of the 3/4 guitars, but now it's on "closeout" for $100. I know the original deal was dependent on using a special link. Anyone got a better deal for this guitar?
