Edit: Rambling, going off tangent here. Playing around with the score rating setting, the top models vary from high, short starting speeds and dropping down from thermal throttling I guess or tech limitations. Then there are slower but sustaining speeds (I guess from tech that allows longer writing/reading speed durations). Knowing nothing about usbs to still knowing nothing but that they aren't all the same like everything in life makes choosing the right one for people's own situations infinitely difficult beyond just transferring data or using a usb.
1. From what I know ssds are better, faster and cheaper for data.
2. I use the USB because it's said to be the most straight forward, easiest, least time consuming, compatible way to install windows. So that's why they're still used instead of ssds I assume.
Then get a Samsung 990 pro 1 tb nvme for $70 for your atop. It's v4, and backwards compatible. if on v3 it's still lower energy, has dram, great quality ram (mlc). and will move as quick as the motherboard will let it. They don't always put in the fastest drive the motherboard will handle, and post the speed of hd it comes with as the max speed.
Then take the nvme out of your laptop and put it in a $20 enclosure and use it as a 10,000 speed usb stick. screw this usb 3.1 1,300 speed stuff.
as long as your laptop has usb 3.1 gen 2 port (not 3.1 gen 1, is way slower), or a firewire port (usb c) you will get great speeds with your old laptop drive with enclosure.

And did you buy any of them?

Now it's showing in stock at my store in West Central Indiana but as others have said, sometimes that's not accurate and maybe you're able to get it shipped delivered.
