Surprisingly our MALM bed has lasted over 10 years of being used by my then bachelor husband, then by us and now in the guest room for past 3 years and in between dis-assembled, moved and re-assembled twice. It's only started to creak a bit now when our 3 kids jump on it as if it were trampoline.
I first bought these on sale in 2009-10 time frame for $40 each (bought 3 at the time)
Then a couple of years ago bought a couple for $70 if I remember correctly.
They are $150 regular price now? That is crazy. They are good dressers though. My first 3 survived a move from Florida to Texas fully assembled and my second 2 survived a move from Las Vegas to Virginia fully assembled.

The three drawer units make great bedside tables. Put three of the six drawer units side by side and you can fit a 65" TV on top of them. I usually get the glass cover for each unit. My oldest six drawer is older than 10 years. Barring a natural disaster, etc., I shouldn't have buy new furniture in this lifetime.
My Malm bed has been disassembled and reassembled about 5 times in the past 6 years and is now in my guest bedroom along with the myrbaka mattress that's still firm.

Wow! I didn't realize the price skyrocketed so much over the years. I've had my current one since about 2013? I bought it used on craigslist for $15. Still in pretty good 9/10 condition!
I just disasse.bled my malm bed for the 3rd time last weekend. It's still working great. Some may look down on Ikea in furniture in general because they use a lot of particle board but what their particle board based furniture lasts. On this malm at least most their fasteners don't screw into the wood it doesn't have as many places it can accidentally break. Their dowels tend to be bigger so that really helps on the stability.
I have the 3 and 6 drawer malms, as well as the TV stand malm. All are holding up well after almost 10 years.
Agreed with the rest here that the 6 drawer version is heavy and hard to move. Go with two 3 drawer versions instead.

Keep in mind, ikea have changed how far their drawers open in the recent years. I guess some kids were left unattended and used their furniture as a jungle gym, and now we all have to suffer.
The last time I went to buy drawers, they had the section closed off, and you had to sign a waiver acknowledging that you know these should be anchored to the wall. As a result, the drawers only open halfway.
This is the dresser that has killed numerous children[npr.org] from its poor design that makes it a tipover hazard. IKEA's "fix" was to include hardware to attach it to the wall, as if most people actually do that.
Do these have soft close? Not sure if that's implied by smooth running drawers.
I've assembled and installed IKEA kitchen cabinets a few times. The slides become soft close by snapping on a spring-like mechanism on the backside of the rail. Not sure if that would be available on this particular item though.

A lot of their storage stuff is on sale, and it's actually pretty decent savings:
