Google has been dropping the ball supporting their ecosystem. It seems that my Google Homes keep getting worse every day. The devices have become slow to respond and often have issues doing something as simple as turning off a light. Is Google even trying anymore?

I have a few of these and am very happy with them as long as you calibrate your expectations. It is not a tablet (or even close), but it does do some things well:
- Play music on command and works really well if you have YouTube Music sub
- Will play the news or latest podcast
- My favorite feature: if you use google photos it will curate your pictures and show you a slideshow history of your pictures. Not sure how it works, but does an incredible job of picking them and bringing back awesome memories. I've used Google Photos for years, so lots of great content. It really is incredible.

They do get cheaper on occasion, but this is a great price and although it's far from perfect, still a solid product.

FWIW I like ours and it works great. Way better than Alexa.

very lucky, mine reboots randomly like every hour, and screen goes out often and come back on randomly. It just a digital clock for me now.
Have you factory reset it? May be worth a shot.

Worth $40, super slow unresponsive touch screen, very low quality audio and same complaints as the nest audio thread, Google assistant is basically useless at this point.
Are these always low quality audio? I used my expiring Google credit to get one recently, and it's SO much bassier than the Minis, to the point when I think the assistant voice sounds very muffled, and I was wondering if something was wrong or if that's just how they sound. I think the Minis sound great all things considered, so I assumed the bigger Hub speaker should be at least that good.

Is 2nd gen better than 1st gen? lot of times it won't hear us unless we screaming and also very slow comparing Alexa. Reason we keeping Google because we have Youtube Premium to listen music.

Probably just needed a factory reset. I reset my 1st Gen and it works like it's brand new.

Same price at Home Depot, Target, and Walmart:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Googl.../316050817 [homedepot.com]
https://www.target.com/p/google-n...A-80209774 [target.com]
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Google...SellerId=0 [walmart.com]

Does anyone think it'll be significantly cheaper on Black Friday? Maybe $40-50? Looks like it's in the holiday return period at Target and Walmart already though, so if it's cheaper at either retailer, you can rebuy and return.

For the benefit of humanity, I'll share my morning frustration at Target & mostly Walmart.
First, Target does NOT have their holiday return period in place now.
Second, Walmart does, but ONLY if you buy it online (the website specifically says "Free Holiday returns until Jan 31". However the holiday return period does not apply if you buy it in the store. So I ordered in online for a store pickup.
Hope this helps to clarify the returns for you guys.

Also neither store has the sale price marked although they will price match the online sale price. What wonderful people, eh? BTW, bothe stores had a low inventory of the Google home.

Hope this helps to clarify the returns for you guys

Would this work as a continuous screen for a security camera? The alexa show would gradually desync further and further from the live view.

Hey Google turn off the bedroom lights
"I'm sorry there's something wrong" proceeds to turn on every other light in the house…. Google assistant has become blatantly bad. Don't buy this or any Google product.

I'm a little bit suspicious here. I use one, currently as a fancy clock. I can agree with everyone that Google Assistance is, well… it used to be better. I have a feeling Google is going to cancel it soon, since they now have an expensive tablet/hub. Also, I'm shocked how slow interface is on this device. But again how can I not be suspicious, I used to have Nest cameras. I sold them all already. They always need to mess everything up with garbage software. Hardware team at Google is great, but software is such a mess.

A little over a year with this and I started getting green streaks all over the screen.

Support won't help. There are a bunch of support forum threads on this as well. Seems like a hardware issue.

they literally told me check their store to buy a new one.

Ok, I was having issues with the screen dimming, and the reset worked.

AFAIK they are the same but the 2nd gen has a built-in Soli radar so Google can upsell you their sleep tracking service.

I use one on my nightstand. Works fine for what I need it to do (alarm clock, cast device, voice control for weather/lists/smart plugs)

I keep seeing people say their 7" Nest Hubs are buggy, and I believe that. I have a few of them as well as the speakers and mine have worked well. The only things I do on them is set timers and alarms, check weather, play music, and have my photos displayed. I don't try to play games or any of the other things on there.

I don't get why the experience of these is so inconsistent. I'm crossing my fingers mine stays working well.

I have a bunch of Google Home/Nest devices. I kind of agree with you. Google really produces half-baked products. Support is poor. They will discontinue a product just as quickly as it was announced. Google search sucks these days.

Unfortunately, there aren't many competitors in this space.
