P1 account (opened 2021-10, expired 2022-10) still has my same cell # which I used in today's signup (used different email). Got the "You look familiar..." pop up after clicking purchase and chose "No, join" instead of "Yes, renew." $15 charged to my CC.
Not nearly as sweet as years past in combining different cashback, existing member referral, and eGC w/ signup offers but otherwise happy to not pay full price for at least another year. Shop at Sam's regularly and especially enjoy the clearance items.
For good housekeeping would like to delete the expiring and old memberships completely, which seems possible according to a support page on the Walmart corporate website:

Not that it's a great deal or anything. Two shopping trips (at different stores) of $120 and change and i'm not particularly impressed on the grocery availability. In fact, at the 2nd store, their rotisserie chicken was unavailable - not just sold out but literally none cooking.

However I cannot find any such option in the Sam's Club app.
So, a good strategy going forward might be to delete the user account for the expiring membership before it expires, if that at all helps with signing up again a year later under a different email address.
