its 8 1 TB drives. 2.5" sata ones. seems ridiculously expensive.

ugh, I agree - that is the worst option . . . I would still like to see what the UI is like (but not at this price point). They're not showing it as a NAS, just a portable storage array.

This is for a very specific set of users including folks who shoot and record in 4k or higher and need to remain mobile, possibly while editing footage. Theses folks usually care about redundancy because sometimes you only get one chance to get the shot.

useless piece of garbage. who uses Thunderbolt 3 for storage? this should be no more than a cost of a hdd and storage enclosure

buy a nas, and call it a day.
