You've had really good luck! These are the estimates for a Honda Civic, driven 20k miles a year, with 250k miles:

https://repairpal.com/cars/honda/civic/2011

Estimates about 5,000$ in repair costs. Now obviously some will have 1$ and some will have 10,000$.... but thats the average. Hondas are highly reliable though, and it seems the video had the biggest impact with a subaru which may be less reliable in comparison.

You'd also have the fuel costs though, so that difference would probably be smaller. But hard to beat a honda in reliability against any car.
No point in comparing a Civic with Tesla...

My 2019 currently has 175k miles. Depending on the average driver I'd say that's roughly 14-17 years of miles and I don't take care of my battery at all. Currently sitting at about 15% battery loss after all those charges. Aside from tires and suspension stuff, the drive train is rock solid.
I don't know if that's really a fair real world estimate. 175k miles in 4 years, I'm guessing a lot of that is highway miles. Sure that might equal the same mileage some drive in 14-17 years, but age also plays a role in a lot of variables. I don't know where you live but 4 northern Minnesota frigid winters vs 17 of them would make a big difference in wear and tear, even if the car was just parked.

Be prepared for long repairs if you need even minor body repair. First, no one takes Tesla, second my appointment is 6 month in the future

to be fair $5,000 can vary wildly
Where I live I had a shop charge $100 for a evac & fill AC recharge whereas a franchise oil change shop ($45 oil synthetic oil changes) charges $269.99 for the same service

Even when you're using shops and not DIY costs can vary. The shop that did my AC also changed my front end (contrl arms, ball joints, etc) a few years ago and let me bring my own parts. $250 for labor

Another shop told me "Your car is hella dangerous and needs $5k in work - sign here for this subprime loan". 60k miles later and my car still drives like new

I'm someone who's heavily pro-EV but I do think they need to make something basic in the $20k range (BEFORE tax incentives)

For $4.5k I lost on price drop I could buy 900 gallons of gas. That means I lost around 2 years of driving.Smilie. I don't really like Tesla and will look for something else, but not Lexus, it is much worse than Tesla. I can't even imagine how disappointed people who bought Telsa last year.
Things I personally hate, and my wife agrees with me, in my Tesla Y.
* The internals are plastic and too plain.
* Crazy noisy on freeway
* The camera at the back is garbage
* Only stupid display in the middle. You need to have chameleon eyes
* The mirrors are very small
* The blind spot feature was developed by idiots. No sensor on the mirror and no sound when the blinker is on and car is near.
* The Tesla info system doesn't support Android or Apple phones. You will be with 20 years old design Tesla operating system.
* The glass roof is very bad. Doesn't protect you from scorching sun. At least the roof cover is available on Amazon.
* And camera instead of parking sensors was a huge mistake. Again looks looks idiots were creating parking camera algorithms
* The car is heavy and suspension system is not comfortable.
Ok, what I like is a size and how fast I can accelerate.
In some states 4.5 k is like 1500 gal of gas with hybrid that corresponds to 70 k miles which is like 7 years of driving.

Charge for an hour to be able to drive halfway across town and back 🤪 unless you have a fast charger....which probably costed anywhere from $1500-$6,000 to have installed. Which is $1500-$6000 more in my pocket than you 😂🤣
More like $150 for a welder outlet, but keep trying, you're getting so close to making me regret my choice of car for the past 5 years. 😁

Won't you take a huge bath on it at carvana? Used Tesla prices are coming down. Find out what you can get it for it. Only way to make a real decision.
Cavana offered $41,000 and my remaining loan amount is $38,000 It will end up paying off the loan since there would be sales tax about 7% Tesla trade value is about $36,000

I mean, all those who got fleeced the last few years crying about lower prices now… How do you think anyone buying a house right now is gonna feel in a couple years lol? No one out a gun to your head to buy an expensive battery-powered vehicle during a pandemic lol.
house is appreciating asset. cars are depreciating asset. Big difference.

I want one, would love to hear people's opinions regarding ownership in a state with a cold climate with a lot of snow (Minnesota) I've read that cold climates destroy the batteries and range.

In winter just subtract 50% battery range loss (this is factoring in creature comfort and the worst weather driving conditions) otherwise it's usually around 30%. This is for all EV's currently.

2018 Model 3 RWD owner here, I use Nokian Haka R3 for winter tires. Handles better than Model Y AWD with stock tires in snow.

We currently own all AWDs ICE: 1 audi Q3 2021, 1 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2021, 1 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid 2018. Paying $200/month for insurance in WA 250k/500k & $2mil umbrella (+$30/month)

We are looking for replacing the Audi & Rav4 to Teslas.

Q1A) Which models suggest? *Best Winter Range* preferred!
one 7 seater AWD Tesla to replace Rav4 ?
one sedan M3 or MY to replace the Audi ?

Q1B) We live on Hills (harsh winter/ice/snow) - how are the suggested Tesla Models w/AWD fairs/compares on ice with Winter Tires & Snow Chains compared to those Toyota SUVs currently served us thru all prev snow storms?

Q1C) how much monthly insurance premiums or raise should we expect for the suggested model?

Q2) Enhanced AutoPilot sufficient for highway in WA and rural off-roads (like Wapato/Yakima?)

Q3) Also installing home charger - should we future-proof by install 2 stalls or 3 stalls now to save as bundle-build cost in future? Should we attempt install chargers & park them Teslas outside garages to prevent fire?

Q4) Heard about lack of parking sensors - should we wait for 2024 and beyond if HW4&later Tesla may brings back sensors? What differences between HW3 vs HW4 models currently on market?

Q5) extra misc: heard about Toyota 900 miles & charges in 10mins battery won't be on market until 2027ish. Does Tesla battery upgradeable from liquid-state (currently) to solid-state (future competition w/Toyota or ICE makers)? Or do we expect to completely replace the vehicles after owning it for 3-5 yrs (if battery-state-technology unexchangeable between liquid <#> solid)?

Appreciated your patience. Sorry about asking too many questions, from a traditional ICE family. Thank you.

You will massively regret the rav 4 for a Tesla. For decades. Bad idea.

The AWD and range increase makes this a decently easy choice now, frankly these cars last forever, teslas ability to make the car an appliance means youll likely keep it in your family for years upon years, youll either give it to your parents, sister, kid, etc after 8 years. $4500 over 8 years is only extra $562. Its almost "regret insurance" at that point, if every year you get into a situation where you wish you had awd and slightly more range than youll kick yourself for not having gotten this. (I also think the LR has subwoofers and rwd doesnt... but someone would have to confirm that for me)
Last forever? Based on what?
