For the people don't like Tesla Model Y / 3 and haven't drive one, you can rent one from Hertz for a few days to see if you like it before making a big purchase. So far, I haven't heard anyone complains about their acceleration, but more on build quality / brake / range / Musk himself.

I don't understand car drivers who brag about putting 100000s miles on their car.

While you are saving money, you're also driving an old car with old tech and old safety. I won't even talk about worn out surfaces and smell...even a new car at three years starts getting a little gamey.

Driving a new car is almost always nicer, so who cares how many miles a car will last...it's like talking about my iPhone. I'm getting rid of it within three years or less...

This is Slickdeals...not frugal living or the pennypincher.
This comment just makes no sense. Either that or you've never actually owned a car before and are just commenting based on imagination.
The fact that you level of equivalence was to compare a car with an Iphone hilariously puts you in the GenZ-still live with my parents- want my hobby as a job- take a selfie anytime i eat because the world cares-- category.
A 3 year old car gets "Gamey"? Are you using it as a toilet and didn't flush?
The fact is all cars are old tech except for the top of line models. The luxury lines get the tech first and it takes years for that to then make it down to the lower lines.
So yes, your brand new Toyota today will have tech that was proven in Lexus, your brand new Merc today will have tech that was proven on the S-Class/Maybach.
Your brand new Model 3 is getting tech that was proven on the Model S.
The biggest joke here about the tech is that the Tesla Models have not been updated for donkey years. So no, you are not getting new tech or a new car, it's the exact same design since inception.
The older same model cars get the same software updates as the new ones btw, so that new tech logic is fundamentally flawed.
If not changing your car every 3 years makes one a PennyPincher then it clearly explains the reason people with money have it and those without don't.

Also, Anyone who believes a TESLA will last forever is just making it up. There is no rechargeable battery that lasts forever. They all lose charge.
When they do, the cost of replacement will be worth more that the entire car btw. Unlike ICE cars where you could source an engine from a salvage yard, the EV is going to be a write off at that time.

If you search for the existing inventory of the Model Y, the price has been around $48K, so it's really not big surprise that they dropped it officially.

Insurance is extremely high on these Teslas

Not sure why people keep repeating this myth- many owners including myself have reported insurance did not change significantly going from a comparable ICE car to the Tesla (Lexus IS350 to Model 3 for me).

Obviously if you're going from a 1998 Civic to the Tesla it'll cost more.

When Motortrend directly compared to the most comparable BMWs they found Tesla was actually similar or cheaper as much as they were more expensive-
https://www.motortrend.com/featur...nce-costs/

The misinformation is compounded by people trying to compare not just totally different cars, but trying to compare what, say, a guy in a bad neighborhood with bad credit in Calfornia pays vs another person in the middle of nowhere Iowa.... compounded even more by different companies charging vastly different rates.

For example:

https://www.moneygeek.com/insuran...insurance/

They got prices from as high as the 2500 someone suggested, to as low as about 1300- almost half the price- simply by checking with different insurance companies.

Will they adjust the price for me? Just order last week but not deliver yet

Historically yes if you've not taken delivery and the price drops you get the lower price.

I wonder if I should trade in my model 3 for model y. I hate all the interior noise from model 3.
That's because before it was engine noise that was drowning out the road noise. 😂

While I hate that the base model RWD is not less than base AWD the battery chemistry of the base model lasts 4x longer and has a much higher safety rating I'm going with the base model.

their quality is like a 90s kia.
If you look at their stock price and their margins, it basically confirms it too. They're peddling poor quality vehicles with exciting tech and slapping a huge premium on it. Even at these prices, it still feels way too expensive. You're still getting a 20k car (in terms of quality) for double the price.

my wife loves Lexus (friend has RX350) way more than she loves me. After I got my model Y, she went for a model 3 and fell in love with it. no more Lexus for her. Keep your Lexus if soft/cushion drive is your top priority as Tesla Y/3 rides is more rough. Otherwise, Model Y all the way! Too many good things to list, and too much misinformation, but here are some positive things, in order of my own ranking:

#1 Safety is off the hook (frontal crash with Van, van driver died, model 3 driver walked out since no front engine. search you tube. or that depressed doctor who drove his family flying then rolling down a cliff in the model Y smashed to oblivion but everyone's got minor injury)
#2 Sporty drive and so fast. changing lane, merging into freeway, or just speed up at yellow light, makes it a lot safer and faster to get around in general. you have to own it to really know what I mean.
#3 save on gas and no hassle going to the pump, plug in at home like your phone
#4 Autopilot! relaxed driving on freeway. priceless for commuting.
#5 1 pedal driving! no need to brake at red light. also huge screen for backup/left/right camera. see everything!
#6 low maintenance, just the tires. oh, and no more keys or having to lock doors! or remotely venting/heating/cooling/defrost.

the cons are: rough ride, noisy, tire wear, and low battery if you go longer distance than 3 hours. all I can think of.

Had to drive a gas car in Hawaii on our vacation and I hated it so much. no more gas car for us. at these prices, Y/3 is a no brainer to me if you need a new car.
Same thing for me. I bought an X in 2019 after wife said no way in hell we are going electric. 2 years later we sold her MB and she got the Y. Driving a gas car is like using a flip phone to us now. we are never going back and can not seem to find any other brand that has better EVs. my only concern buying the X was not having car play. Tesla car play like solution is Sooo much better then car play. e.g. try to pinch to zoom in carPlay. Best not to listen to the nay sayers that make up FUD and listen only to people that own or have owned a Tesla. at these prices i agree. no brainer.
as for the person pissed Tesla keeps on dropping prices. I thought that is what Slick deals is all about - finding great products at a discount. ??? If not go buy a car from a dealer where price is determined by how long you are willing to fight...

maybe you're just a grimy person. my 18 years old car is definitely not grimey. its very clean and has no smell to it.

the eff... slickdeals is the meaning of frugal living....we are here to find deals. if deals aren't frugal living. then the heck is it?

people brag about their high mileage is saving money in itself.
Getting a good deal isn't frugal...it's being a smart shopper. Do you really think going to Fogo De Chao for $39 (+tax+tip+drinks) is a frugal way to eat? Or buying a completely unneccesary OLED?

We're on this board to stretch our dollars we spend.

Truly frugal people wouldn't be buying 90% of the stuff listed on this board!

The decision is really on battery price? Assuming 20 MPG and $3 gas (which it is not). 8K would get you around 55K miles. Yeah you are not replacing a battery that much.
This varies greatly on the owners location. For instance, my only access to a charging station over night is a parking garage. They charge 100/m+ to use the charging station and the parking spot fee which is 250/m. This adds 350/m to my monthly expenses just to charge my car over night vs parking my car my ICE car on the street for free and fill up once every 2 weeks. Until they reduce the charging times down to sub 5 mins, EV isn't for someone like me.

….just don't forget the $2500 a year in insurance
My normal 10 years old toyota camry already cost me $2200 a year. Insurance done flying up and up. I wish I can get a tesla for $2500 in Insurance.

I love slickdealers who tell us how crappy the stuff they own is so we can dodge the "deal".
