While you are saving money, you're also driving an old car with old tech and old safety. I won't even talk about worn out surfaces and smell...even a new car at three years starts getting a little gamey.
Driving a new car is almost always nicer, so who cares how many miles a car will last...it's like talking about my iPhone. I'm getting rid of it within three years or less...
This is Slickdeals...not frugal living or the pennypincher.
The fact that you level of equivalence was to compare a car with an Iphone hilariously puts you in the GenZ-still live with my parents- want my hobby as a job- take a selfie anytime i eat because the world cares-- category.
A 3 year old car gets "Gamey"? Are you using it as a toilet and didn't flush?
The fact is all cars are old tech except for the top of line models. The luxury lines get the tech first and it takes years for that to then make it down to the lower lines.
So yes, your brand new Toyota today will have tech that was proven in Lexus, your brand new Merc today will have tech that was proven on the S-Class/Maybach.
Your brand new Model 3 is getting tech that was proven on the Model S.
The biggest joke here about the tech is that the Tesla Models have not been updated for donkey years. So no, you are not getting new tech or a new car, it's the exact same design since inception.
The older same model cars get the same software updates as the new ones btw, so that new tech logic is fundamentally flawed.
If not changing your car every 3 years makes one a PennyPincher then it clearly explains the reason people with money have it and those without don't.
Also, Anyone who believes a TESLA will last forever is just making it up. There is no rechargeable battery that lasts forever. They all lose charge.
When they do, the cost of replacement will be worth more that the entire car btw. Unlike ICE cars where you could source an engine from a salvage yard, the EV is going to be a write off at that time.
Not sure why people keep repeating this myth- many owners including myself have reported insurance did not change significantly going from a comparable ICE car to the Tesla (Lexus IS350 to Model 3 for me).
Obviously if you're going from a 1998 Civic to the Tesla it'll cost more.
When Motortrend directly compared to the most comparable BMWs they found Tesla was actually similar or cheaper as much as they were more expensive-
https://www.motortrend.
The misinformation is compounded by people trying to compare not just totally different cars, but trying to compare what, say, a guy in a bad neighborhood with bad credit in Calfornia pays vs another person in the middle of nowhere Iowa.... compounded even more by different companies charging vastly different rates.
For example:
https://www.moneygeek.c
They got prices from as high as the 2500 someone suggested, to as low as about 1300- almost half the price- simply by checking with different insurance companies.
Historically yes if you've not taken delivery and the price drops you get the lower price.

#1 Safety is off the hook (frontal crash with Van, van driver died, model 3 driver walked out since no front engine. search you tube. or that depressed doctor who drove his family flying then rolling down a cliff in the model Y smashed to oblivion but everyone's got minor injury)
#2 Sporty drive and so fast. changing lane, merging into freeway, or just speed up at yellow light, makes it a lot safer and faster to get around in general. you have to own it to really know what I mean.
#3 save on gas and no hassle going to the pump, plug in at home like your phone
#4 Autopilot! relaxed driving on freeway. priceless for commuting.
#5 1 pedal driving! no need to brake at red light. also huge screen for backup/left/right camera. see everything!
#6 low maintenance, just the tires. oh, and no more keys or having to lock doors! or remotely venting/heating/cooling/defrost.
the cons are: rough ride, noisy, tire wear, and low battery if you go longer distance than 3 hours. all I can think of.
Had to drive a gas car in Hawaii on our vacation and I hated it so much. no more gas car for us. at these prices, Y/3 is a no brainer to me if you need a new car.
as for the person pissed Tesla keeps on dropping prices. I thought that is what Slick deals is all about - finding great products at a discount. ??? If not go buy a car from a dealer where price is determined by how long you are willing to fight...
the eff... slickdeals is the meaning of frugal living....we are here to find deals. if deals aren't frugal living. then the heck is it?
people brag about their high mileage is saving money in itself.
We're on this board to stretch our dollars we spend.
Truly frugal people wouldn't be buying 90% of the stuff listed on this board!
