LFP or die, no cobalt under my roof because we want to live and not catch on fire due to our car in the middle of the night. Plus Tesla is the most consumer unfriendly car company on the planet. God forbid that you have the knowledge and skills beyond their HS drop out "techs" that take months to fix simple things.

Hello! I appreciate the conversation regarding Tesla and the tax credit. I've decided not to purchase the car because my income disqualifies me from receiving the credit. It's interesting that our lawmakers set a threshold of $80,000 for the car's value and an income limit of $300,000 for eligibility. In my opinion, it would make more sense for the law to prevent buying a car that exceeds 15% of one's annual gross income…. Also if you make less than 300k and that is your primary source of income… don't get an 80k 🚗

Not a chance. If it does it will be a big benefit to new car buyers in weakening economy. Also sadly it will bring at least 5-6 other car makers closer to bankruptcy!

Not quite. If I have a tax liability of $10,000 and I paid it through paycheck deductions all year I don't technically owe anything, but would get $7500 credited back to me.

However if your tax liability is less than $7500 you will only get whatever your tax liability is back (i.e. you'll get less than $7500). So if you paid $6000 in taxes you'd only get $6000 credited to you.

Uh...what?

I mean, like if you have a massive unpaid tax bill, then you DO get the $7500 but it would go TOWARD paying off that bill.

But if you mean "if I get a refund or not"- no, that has nothing at all to do with qualifying for the credit.

Note that this is accurate for 2023. As of Jan 1 2024 this requirement goes away, and you get the $7500 applied right at time of purchase to the price of the car. Your tax liability no longer matters, you get the whole $7500 regardless. The only disqualifying personal tax situation at that point is if you're over the 150k/300k income cap

I have been driving my Model Y LR for about 5 months now and here are my impressions:
It's great for household with multiple vehicles.
  • Having ability to charge at home/work is very important.
  • Fuel savings are pretty good compared to gasoline only vehicles but not against vehicles like Prius Prime
  • Build quality is OK and ride quality is similar to say Lexus NX
  • Acceleration is phenomenal and audio system sound is outstanding!
I highly recommend getting the LR over any other Model Y because a big factor in buying EV is range after all batteries will eventually go down in strength. If anyone has questions about this vehicle feel free to ask or DM me.

Yes, you read that right: You should not be surprised to get 500,000 miles from the original set of Tesla brake pads based on real-world evidence that has accumulated over the years. You ask for "proof" of an estimate, which I find amusing. I have the benefit of personal experience driving a vehicle with a highly refined regenerative braking system. Extrapolate over 200,000 miles driven with only minimal (20% to 25%) wear to the original brake pads, and it's not difficult to project a longevity estimate, in much the same way that tire longevity can be estimated with reasonable accuracy if you choose to take the tread depth measurements from time to time. There are plenty of corroborating anecdotal reports with similar or even much higher brake pad longevity estimates. You can choose not to believe them or you can collect your own data, which is exactly what I did.

It is important to appreciate how little the brake pedal needs to be used on a Tesla vehicle and how that translates to dramatically better longevity for both the brake pads. It's not a difficult concept, but it may be hard to fathom the magnitude of the benefit for those who have not experienced Tesla's regenerative braking and one-pedal driving. Any doubters who wish to see the proof for themselves need not take anyone's word for it; they can take a free test drive or choose a Tesla for their next rental. Count how many times you have to apply the brake pedal, then compare and do the math. Did you apply the brakes 10 times less often? 20 times less often? You will then understand the dramatic differences and you will have your own proof.

Brake pads are like $35 and take maybe 30 mins to swap out, hardly makes up for the price difference...
