I have a DJI Mini 3. Is it necessary to buy a Mini 4 Pro?
The 4 main reasons to get the Mini 4 pro would be:
- All directions obstacle avoidance
- More frame rates available
- For the new remote
- To have the latest and greatest
It's up to you if you "need" any of these things. I think Mini 3 is great as it is. I had a Mini 2 until earlier this year when I sold and bought an Air 2S (no regrets!!).

My 9yr old has been requesting a drone for a while... so i leisurely look for them now
is there a specific DJI thats a little better for a smaller kid or doesnt reallly matter just smaller price tag when she smashes it into a tree?
I bet you'll get the answer after having an aerial view of the drone
I'll play devils advocate. I remember getting the 2. After getting awesome aerials, I realized I still shelled out hundreds for a mere passive hobby that I won't do all the time. Same with my video game steering wheel/pedal/shifter simulator. Now, I just want one to inspect my roof weekly. I will say $430 in this deal has a greater chance of less buyers remorse.

Have them take the FAA's TRUST test first to find out if they can live by the rules surrounding drones. Then download the B4UFLY app to see if you can legally fly a drone outside where you live and any altitude restrictions.
For a 9 year old a 1S FPV drone may be better. Basic RTF setups can be had for about $200 or so. Those can be flown indoors and are much more durable than any DJI camera drone. Resale if she's bored is also easier. Fixing a broken gimbal on a DJI drone is tedious and the drone flies horribly with a broken gimbal. A little 1S FPV drone can be flown fine with a broken camera.
