This Cable Modem has a known issue where its Configuration page cannot be accessed by using the normal IP 192.168.100.1 if there is a Wireless Router in-between the Cable Modem and your device. The solution is to log into your Wireless Router's management page and change its IP address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1. Once you do this and reboot the Wireless Router, you will be able to access the Cable Modem's Configuration page using the regular IP address (192.168.100.1).

I have had this modem for over 5 years, it's easily the best one I've had. There are newer models but I don't get speeds over a gig anyway.

I wonder if you might be referring to the notorious Arris Surfboard modem line. Motorola and Arris modems look identical and are manufactured in the same factories but they have different chipsets and firmware.
Newer Arris modems seem to have remedied most of their issues but Motorola modems, especially this one, were highly sought after when they hit the market because of years of abuse from ISPs pushing the garbage Arris Surfboard units.
