This is so true. However, I tend to pull apart old appliances and electronics and sort them for recycling, keeping screws, nuts, bolts, and washers. That covers all the small projects I do. Only big projects require buying anything.

Head on most DW screw is .315-.347" in diameter

#10 washer hole is .214-.227" in diameter

I will be building deck and basement in next one year. Will I have use for flat washers? I will be buying one for spare but want to see if I can buy more.

Also the 90 count galvanized ones in Menard is lessthan 4 dollar. So saving is insignificant but 50c is 50c.

Hot Dipped Galvanized is 5x more resistant to corrosion than zinc.

HDG coating also is "self healing" if scratched.
