Psssst!.
This may be a gen 4 but nobody wants to mention the speed of less than 5 MB/s.

Gathering
You know what people want to mention even less than that? That read/write speeds don't translate to a proportionate difference in loading times.

For most daily use, there's little noticeable difference between pretty much any gen3 and gen4 drives.

I say this as someone who owns an sn770, sn850x, and probably will get a t700 at some point, just because. Most people are looking for price performance value, not arbitrary numbers.

I couldn't tell a difference between 7000MB/s and 3000MB/s in my laptop except the "faster" one ran hotter.

Then go with a gen 3. It will be cheaper.

The cheapest 2tb gen3 rn on pcpartpicker is $68.98. While the difference is small, there's no sense paying more for less.

What and where? I don't see any compelling discounts for stepping down to gen3 vs just getting something like the Solodigm, which is already pretty cheap. It's a well-known OEM supplier operating under a name virtually no normal buyer recognizes.

Laptop isn't the environment for a 7000MB/S drive. I bet you that thing was throttled. That's like those laptops with powerful cpus and gpus. Nice specs on paper but in real life it is nothing but throttling.

I think it's because the difference in 30s load time vs 32s isn't noticeable.

Perhaps but I went with the well reviewed Gen3 SK Hynix NVME because of power and heat.

Too many of these high end parts throttle in laptops.
