This is true. I went downhill on my v-brake road bike going 45mph a few years ago and I died.

Sorry for your loss.

There are lots of reviews of this bike on YouTube. Just use keywords "Hyper", "ebike" and "26". I skipped through a few....

Many people seem to have paid under $400 but some paid closer to $600. It weighs about 48 lbs. Seems to fit shorter to medium height people (5'2" to 5'10"). A tall rider complained.

It doesn't perform well as a real mountain bike. But does seem to to do okay on light trails or as an urban commuter. It has 3 levels of peddle assist. Manufacturer claims 20 miles range. People claiming to get up to 32 miles on the street or only 12 miles on light trail. Obviously, this depends on your weight, the route ridden, how hard you are peddling, which level of electric assist you are using etc.

It's peddle assist only with no throttle. It makes riding on flat ground and slight to moderate hills easier. Apparently it's not powerful enough to help much on very steep hill climbs. Since you normally won't be going over 20 mpg, V-brakes seem to be okay ...unless you need to stop fast while speeding down a steep hill.

Seems to be a decent value at $350 if you want some assist on easier commutes (or easy trail rides) around town.

Edit: It also has a lockable or removable battery. This seems like a great bike if you need to lock it up outside once in a while. A lot of people with expensive ebikes are even afraid to lock up their ebikes even briefly to go grocery shopping etc. But $350 is cheaper than lots of conventional commuting bikes.

Sorry for the newbie question but would there be any issues attaching a dog trailer to this that's made to attach to bicycles?

Well I guess it depends on how the trailer is supposed to attach. But I'd imagine there would be a way to get most trailers to work. There is nothing about ebikes that prevents you from towing and the way the rear wheel attaches to the frame is pretty much the same as a regular bike. Good news about buying from Walmart is that you should be able to return the bike to a store if doesn't work for you

A salute to all us who have survived all these years with V-brakes.

I used to ride in downtown rush hours without bike lanes and packed with cars with v brakes for years and I lived.
That said, I probably wouldn't buy an ebike without disc brakes, mechanical or hydraulic for that environment.
If you live in burbs or out in the country V should be ok at this price point.

I rode mtb all over Moab for years with rim brakes and no suspension. There were some serious, sketchy, downhills (which are my only reason for riding uphill) and I had a blast.
(we didn't have many options for bikes back then)
That said, disk brakes and boingers are really nice to have. But they cost money and add weight.
Ride what works for you and that you can afford. But, most importantly, get off your azz and ride.

Harsh. Rough day? Objectively this has outdated components at a price point where there are many bikes available with far better specs. Didn't realize there were Hyper fanboys out there.

Can you share some examples of ebikes at this price point with far better specs? I'd genuinely be interested in looking at them.

Just set an alert at this point, I expect there will be more deals in the next couple months. You just missed the Royce Union that was $408 with mid drive, 350w motor, disc brakes. That is probably better if it comes back in stock. There was a huffy recently with 350w motor and disc brakes at $301. There are several on Amazon that are China drop-ships with decent specs, but I think the huffy/royce union ones are a better bet when they come around.

https://www.royceunion.com/rte-el...ike-e4709/ is imo a much better deal with 25% off. Mid drive bikes under $1000 are rare and this has disc brakes vs v brakes. iirc the motor on the royce union is worth $300 or $400 on its own.

this hyper bike appears to be the same one in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmEOCplxw-I and he doesn't like it, and this guy does nothing but electric vehicle videos and reviews. Not to say he's trustworthy or unbiased and he probably gets paid to shill constantly, but still.
