last basic ipads with headphones, if you are buying it for a child on airplane for example... might take it into consideration

Considering this iPad is still current I wouldn't expect it to drop below the $250 threshold. The other iPads as well. The only time you'll see steep discounts are on closeouts. So unless you see apple stop selling a certain model don't expect steep discounts.

The best time to buy is at release. There will be some discount and you'll get use of it for its full life cycle.
