BTW, a short to ground and short circuit aren't actually the same thing.
If you want a more technical explanation (not that everyone who should follow the rules on SOMEONE ELSES BOAT should need one) is that on board a ship, as painfully obvious as this should be, there is no actual GROUND to drive a spike into for safety's sake. The ground leg of an AC circuit has to be created and carefully maintained. Ok so they do that, then what? The surge protectors work by intentionally shorting between the hot leg and the ground leg ALL THE TIME. Normal operation of one of these MOV style protectors only causes a few millivolts to head toward ground, not a big deal and not even onboard a ship, until the fragile balance of the electrical system tips (perhaps due to hundreds of idiotic cruise passengers going 'but those rules don't apply to me because i tried it once and nothing bad happened'.) When that happens, the mere presence of the device causes the fire because its the one interfering with the normal operation of the ground circuit. Take the device away, and the fire risk is gone.
I said (paraphrasing so you don't get confused) 'two indirect cases attributed out of 8 billion people might be overly cautious.'
Do you understand the massive difference?
And you are just copying and pasting said "experts" because you think it applies here. FYI, there are many shipboard power distribution systems. To pretend there is a single one when there is a boat involved shows you have no understanding of the soapbox you now stand atop of.
BTW, the "experts" also say your smartwatch not being in airplane mode will also cause a 747 to crash. How many times have you said "'but those rules don't apply to me because i tried it once and nothing bad happened"

the back ports of the anker are going to be a real PITA against a wall, hence a top mount is better IMO.
