Different category of device than the more expensive TLC SSDs for sure, but I'm eyeing the $126 4TB Fanxiang:

fanxiang S660 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD Internal Solid State Drive - with Heatsink, Dynamic SLC Cache, Up to 5000MB/s, Compatible with PS5, Laptop, PC Desktop
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6DMCJNF

Downsides is that it's QLC and no mention of DRAM, but I unfortunately need 4TB — my photo library doesn't fit in 2TB.

Read up on the downsides of QLC drives — they can be VERY slow to write once you're out of the cache. They are also less durable, but if your primary use is reading, these can be lightning fast for super cheap.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This is available on ebay direct from fanxiang with 20% off code FRESHFINDS20 $159 - $32 = $127 + tax. free shipping.

Says it ships from Kentucky.

I'm not posting a link because every time I do I stumble over some obscure and silly rule and my post gets deleted.

Even lower cost if you buy two or three. Knock about another $10 off.

Item # 364419412982

Ebay says I'll get it next week.

Isn't that the most motivating thing ever?

I'm not sure about that other drive. It'd be inadvisable to say that name without having someone think that you said something else.laugh out loud

See Tom's hardware's cautions about fanxiang and other off brand ssds here:https://www.tomshardware.com/news...-days-2023

Write speed on this drive is poor.

I could not figure out how to link to a specific section. Scroll down to the part labeled "10:21:59 - October 11, 2023 PSA: Don't Buy Offbrand SSDs to Save Money"

Bought and installed this to a ps5, after testing it for any issues on pc with crystal disk mark and h2testw.

It spec'd at 4500-4950 on the pc, the PS5 said it was 4250MB/s. Tried out 10 different ps5 titles and saw no issues with loading or playing, but only did so over a 60min period. Happy with the purchase so far, great for a PS5 IMO, but would use something else for a PC (other than maybe a game drive) just because of the write issues

I experienced the same. However I brought the more expensive ones ($150) with a write speed of supposedly 6800. PS5 clocked it at only 6300. Which is not bad but no where near close to 6800.

I was debating on getting a faster one, but everything I read said it does not matter as long as it's gen 4 and reads at least 4500, but there is the disclaimer that it could matter on future titles, but probably not

My prediction of a decently fast 4th Gen 4TB SSD selling for $100 by Black Friday seems to be on track for coming to fruition.

Yall gotta be careful with these chinese-branded drives. Sometimes they straight out lie about their speeds. Sometimes they harvest used NAND chips from old drives and slap them together on a "new" drive with an ancient controller. Lots of hardware sellers in Shenzhen china will tell you this. If somethong ever fails or doesnt run properly you are on your own. No warranty, no recourse, nada. I wouldnt trust this drive at all.

Another copy paste comment without an actual source or hands on. Try harder or don't try at all
