It opens the door for Brother to block the use of 3rd party toner cartridges with a firmware update. It's best to disable firmware updates in your printer for that reason. As it stands, 3rd party chipped TN730/TN760 toner cartridges are reported to work on Amazon reviews.

The HLL2320D does duplex printing, has no wireless, is faster at 30PPM, and uses the older chipless TN630/TN660 toner cartridges.

The HLL2305W has wireless but no duplex printing, is slower at 24PPM, and uses the newer chipped TN730/TN760 toner cartridges. CORRECTION: User Sparty07 has received their HLL2305W and has informed me that it in fact tales the TN630/TN660 toners, contrary to what Brother's website says.

I couldn't tell mine from brand new. I've seen many others report the same. These are a very safe bet with full factory warranty.

And on that, I believe one can attach the 2320D to a Pi Zero or something and run CUPS and turn it into a wireless printer.

When I bought my Brother all-in-one, I purposefully bought one that uses TN630/TN660 toners to sidestep any future issues with generic toner. It works great with them.
