When you're tailgating or having a picnic in a park you can't "just dig a shallow hole" for a deadman anchor.

Do they cost less than $1.88?

I've camped a lot on beaches and sand. One really easy way to anchor a tent is by doing a deadman anchor. You just dig a shallow hole. Grab a stick (or plastic tent stake) or a rock. Tie the tent guy wire around it, and then bury it perpendicularly. It's simpler and stronger anchorage than a sand bag.

I'm sure there are other purposes that I'm not thinking about for the sand bag, but you don't need this for beach camping. You'd be better off with a small shovel that can help recover your vehicle if you get stuck in sand.

I get it now. This is your go to reply for anyone that posts "shipping kills the deal". Well, why not just buy more stuff to save a few $$ and get free shipping.

So glad to have you as part of the community.
Most places aren't the largest brick and mortar vendor in North America who also sell groceries you need every week anyway.

You seem to want this to be hard for you.

No offense to those that do, but we don't buy groceries from Walmart.

In any case, another user told me how to get free shipping. You add a preorder game to your order and then cancel it after you place the order.

But thanks for being so helpful /s

Like I said, I'm sure there are other reasons, but in a sand environment, deadman anchors usually work well.

For a picnic in the park, you just use stakes.
The bags filled with sand make better "deadmen" than a stick if you bury them. I camp on Assateague and the Outer Banks a lot, for bare sand with a tent that catches a lot of wind (like a pop up) I consider these a pretty solid option.

Though we did essentially the same thing with plastic grocery bags on Assateague with a group of scouts who didn't know to bring sand stakes.

Seems like moist ground would destroy them quickly.
