No. You buy the series again like it was any normal purchase. But it should show $0.00 due at checkout if the upgrade is going to kick in.

It's also possible to be charged for the difference if you originally paid less than the current price.

It's supposed to be a standardly available perk when a better resolution gets offered for certain TV series. But Vudu doesn't broadcast it much & isn't very great about applying it because, well ...Vudu.

I basically wanted to let people know about these upgrades because I don't know of any new release list & these were too good to miss.

But given the feedback, the upgrade policy isn't necessarily common knowledge. And like everything Vudu, isn't necessarily getting applied correctly. So it looks like it was worth posting for a few reasons.

Mine showed up as 9.99 but when at checkout it was 0.

Can you tell from looking at the size of the download options? (I don't have Roku)
I don't think any service allows you to download higher than HD/1080p.

When tv seasons get an upgrade in resolution, Vudu always discounts it by the $ u already paid for the lower resolution.

This is old news on how Vudu offers their upgrades on TV seasons. This works on any TV show season when a higher resolution is available for something u bought, doesn't have to be bbc. This was way more noticable back when older TV shows were available only in SD and then later was available in HDX leading to all free upgrades.

So it's a "free" upgrade if u bought it for the same price as it is now. If u got it on sale in the past then u would have to wait for it to be on sale again to get the free upgrade or pay the difference if u don't wanna wait.

The "season complete" feature is pretty interesting too though it's hardly advertised anymore by vudu either
That has never happened for me

I bought Blue Planet II Season 1 from Amazon in HD. They are still selling it as HD, but when I go to the Amazon Prime app on my Roku, the BPII page says UHD. However, I don't trust it. Does anyone else have BPII on Amazon, and could you tell if the picture is HD or 4K/UHD? Usually, I'll know because an HDR indicator pops up to let me know it's 4K, but BPII isn't in HDR like 90% of 4Ks..
Prime video says the resolution on the bottom of the pause screen on my Roku TV. If your HDR indicator didn't show up it's likely only playing HD

You're right. It reads "HD", so no 4K/UHD on Amazon Prime for me. Frown

Some nice photography in this series but I could do without the hyperbolic propaganda for the climate change cult and the senile has-been they chose as a moderator. The photographers must have been upset that their fine work was made so impalatable by the dialogue.

This worked for me. Again thank you OP! Now, I'm curious if this is really SOP.

QUESTION: How many other TV shows or Movies purchased on VUDU also upgrade?
Others having success with VUDU upgrade from HD to UHD?

Original Planet Earth was amazing but all the BBC/Discovery nature documentaries after it became scolding about climate change.

I don't know, watching the Our Planet scene where those walruses are plummeting off the cliffside was some of the most surreal sh*t I've ever seen. Some concern seems appropriate.

Never for ANYTHING?
Maybe u already own it in the highest possible resolution?

For people that think this feature never existed:
The original website was http://watch.vudu.com/tv/season-offers/
Vudu changed the website often over the years, it's been archived by a dev of theirs: http://melonheadstudio.com/dev/vudu/ if Vudu would just readd that info to their website and update the verbiage to include UHD...smh this is seriously an old feature that was marketed a lot almost a decade ago, found an old post on engadget from June 20, 2014 mentioning it https://www.engadget.com/2014-06-...plete.html

(Sounds weird 2014 is almost a decade ago 😲 geez)

That was while Walmart owned Vudu & was trying to grow the site. Fandango's a bunch of bananas who can't get the Tuesday sales posted right.

Again, given the feedback in this little sampling, not advertising these perks may be to Vudu's cost benefit. Less having to replace these titles for free. More money coming in if unwitting customers pay for whatever replacements the system fails to credit. A good fallback position if someone does hold their feet to the fire since the very well buried promotional information does not mentioning anything about UHD releases currently.

With so many hits on this thread it may turn out to be as much a public service announcement as anything .

Does anyone else use David Attenborough's voice for their inner voice? I do, it makes everything more interesting

Good info, and I thank the OP for it. I wish it worked for movies as well. I have quite a few SD and even more HDX movies I'd like to upgrade, even if they charged me a couple of bucks to do so.
