I just switched to a safety razor for the first time. The experience is so good, I feel like I've wasted my entire life with disposable razors and cartridges. I got a razor and 150 blades for like $15, and the shaves are just as good as cartridges (actually, better...less irritation and pain). The blades even seem to last longer. Just takes a tiny bit longer to shave, maybe an extra minute or 2.

Does the handle take the Fusion 5 blades? Seems like the exfoliating blades cost a lot more than Fusion 5

Nope, checked the Q&A section and someone confirmed there that it is incompatible with older blades.

Thanks. May as well cancel my order then, basically paying $5 a blade and can't refuse the handle for any other blades

What did you buy?
Any link for this. I have never tried a safety razor. I read somewhere that this "new" Gillette blade available in this deal is better than their Fusion. I will try and if I do not like it then will return to Amazon. No point in buying into the system since I already have many Fusion razors and also Mach3 razors.

I returned mine to Target once I realized this. I'll stick with the cheaper blade carts which are already more widely available.

Here to second this. The transition was not enjoyable (takes a few weeks to get used to) but man am I glad I made the change. My shaving expenses are now close to nothing, as weird as that sounds

I find the ones with the battery much better than these that vibrate. I expected some revolution with this and was disappointed

Can you please provide which safety razor and refill blades you use? I've been using Gillette Fusion ProShield and they have become worse over the years and obviously very expensive. My skin is a pain, because it's very sensitive when shaving.

I bought this last time and use my Razors pretty heavily. This one went dull after a handful of shaves, very sharp at first but not as sharp after a few uses. My Fusion5s have far better longevity. Going to try the safety setup above.

I get a fair amount of use out of all my Gillette cartridges (several weeks minimum) and I find that buying them whenever they pop-up on Slickdeals means I have a drawer full of them ready to go. I only stick to the ones that work with all the handles though, so I'll pass on these.

I am seeing $60 for the safety setup. Is that price real?

This razor is for sensitive skin and it is not as aggressive as others I have (meaning it wont bite or pull too much off). I doubt you can cut yourself with this one. I use this as my daily driver.

One of the things you MUST know when shaving w/ a safety razor is to get a good brush and I use Poraso sensitive (up to you), but after the first "traditional" shave going with the grain, put a lather of glycerin soap and then shave against the grain. Do not use a lot of pressure, very light almost let the blade do all the work. Yes you do this and it will take a few weeks for your facial hair to adjust but give it a month. Once you do this you will never go back. I use Personna razors but again there are many out there you can trial to see what you like.

You can watch videos on how to shave, its a little more complicated than a disposable but if you have sensitive skin (like me) this is the way to go. If you have super thick hair, the razor I quoted will not work, you will need a more aggressive razor.

Blades: https://www.amazon.com/Personna-D...C91&sr=1-7

I use about 20 per year, and you can turn over the blade but I dont shave every day. If you did maybe a blade lasts a week. I checked last time I bought razors was 2017 and spent $10 for 100. The price has gone up, but hey what hasnt.

I have been w/ safety razor for over 20 years, so I have tried many different combos. What works you will need to trial for yourself.

Absolutely! In 2012, I bought the Edwin Jagger Double Edge Chrome Handle safety razor and a package of 100 Derby safety razors. I'm not saying this to question your intelligence, but highly recommend watching a few videos so you're familiar with proper way to use a safety razor. I had a steep learning curve and more throat/face cuts than I should have at the beginning! Learn from my mistakes, haha.

I wish you (or anyone else reading this) the best of luck if you make the change! Happy shaving

Updating my post to include the comment from post above mine. Make sure you use proper brush/Poraso. he went into more detail than me and did a great job outlining the essentials.
