They really are for different jobs. The random orbital sander is good for large flat surfaces and has dust collection. The detail sander is for getting into corners and for smaller pieces. I have this sander in addition to a 5" cordless, and 6" corded random orbital sanders. To be honest, I reach for this one surprisingly often and certainly for anything quick.

I'm interested in this, but I already have a m12 fuel multi tool. I use the sanding pad attachment quite a bit but not sure if it is worth getting this as well?

Yes it does. Multi tool takes off more material quicker but is not as smooth or flat of a finish. This tool is better suited for finishing. Thanks op

This is actually a pretty decent deal even if you don't hack it and keep the battery. A detail sander is the only sander type I don't have in my collection, but justifiably: its a super specialty use tool. In all my projects over the last 4 years there is only once I can remember where I could have really justified this.

Great deal but unless you are sanding inside corners alot / fixing old furniture that sorta stuff probably not worth it. I mostly build new things and you can almost always avoid the need for such a tool (and unpleasant task, this is the least effective sander type) by preparing parts pre-assembly.
