TacLight Zoomable Cree LED Flashlight 3-pack for $9 at Walmart (YMMV clearance) B&M / in-store (Bell + Howell)

OK, first off, these lights are way over-hyped on ads, etc and no, it's not some incredible flashlight that's going to save your life, lol. But at $3 each, they're great little lights for sticking in cars, toolboxes, etc. so you always have one handy. They use 3 AAA batteries, so could make use of those free 24-packs of Harbor Freight batteries if you have some laying around. They can also use a single 18650 battery if you make a small filler sleeve for it (easily made out of a strip of thin plastic from a soda bottle or something wrapped in electrical tape).

Walmart link is for reference only. Like most Walmart clearance deals, it will be YMMV depending on location.

Also, here are a couple of YouTube reviews and one with the guy running it through a bunch of silly tests like the TV ads …

Again there's nothing spectacular about this flashlight, but a decent little light if you find a good clearance and the zoom feature can be very handy for spotlighting something at a distance (like house numbers when looking for a particular address at night or wildlife in the distance)
Good Deal?

It doesn't say the lumen rating.
It uses AAA instead of AA.

I'm guessing it uses AAAs for the size and to get the higher voltage needed.

These are absolutely terrible. If you need something for your glovebox then go for it but I would go for something better.

Yeah, I used to dislike the 3xAAA ones, but I ended up picking up some 18650 batteries on sale at one point, so now I actually prefer having that option.

Does this mean you just use the 18650 in place of the AAAs with an adapter?

It's just an in-store clearance. The sale pricing never seems to show up on the website. And different stores follow their own clearance schedule, so some stores will be priced differently or not marked down at all. You used to be able to pull the item up on Brickseek and at least see what stores had clearance prices, but not any more unfortunately.

Yeah. And you don't even need an adapter really, just a makeshift sleeve to make up for the extra width of the tube so it doesn't flop around. I usually just wrap a few strips of thin plastic around it until it's the right diameter and an outer layer of electrical tape. Just don't tape to the battery itself because you want it to slide in and out easily for charging. I've also used a thin strip of cardboard cut from a cereal box before. Whatever you use, you just coil it around to get the right diameter. It doesn't need to be perfect and it should be a little shorter than the battery itself so that the battery contacts are unaffected. Anyway, the battery then slides into the sleeve and the whole thing slips into the flashlight.

Yeah makes sense. Thanks!

Do you know which Cree LED? Can't seem to easily find specs but I am sure the 18650s makes a big difference.
