Not sure where you are looking. I wanted this tv, my last TV was a tcl series 6 but 2 months ago when I started doing research most things pointed to the u8k being better. I went and checked them out at best buy too and found the u8k to be better so I bought thar. Then about a month ago Rtings which is one if if not the most respected testing sites found thar the u8k is better. All the reviewers I seen either had them neck and neck or the u8k better. Plus the u8k is built more for people who like a total experience. U8K not only has the better speaker system but if one plans to use high-end equipment the tcls earc is only hdmi 2.0 so anything you hook to your receiver is only getting hdmi 2.0, that's a real ball drop. The U8K has a ATSC 3.0 tuner while the QM8 doesn't and the U8K has USB 3.0 while the QM8 doesn't. The only real advantage the QM8 has is its brighter but the U8K is very bright too

Everything I've seen says otherwise. The U8K has Wifi 6e, ATSC 3.0, the new pentonic 700 chip for substantially better upscaling per rtings. The hisense also has higher native and effective contrast, substantially more accurate EOTF tracking, and similar peak brightness. Heck at 65" you're even looking at similar dimming zone counts. At 75" I'd say the TCL has nearly double the dimming zones and keeps a VA panel for better contrast, but at 65" the Hisense is a no brainer over the tcl

rtings has the U8K at 8.5 vs. QM8 at 8.3 FWIW

Debating buying or waiting to see BF deals on this and u8k. Wish that was within the return window so I could lock this in.

I have this tv in 65 and the u8h from last year I believe. The tcl is amazing near oled and super bright. Almost too bright. But yea the tcl is way better.

Google TV OS... pass. Currently have a 55" TCL QLED with Google TV and the OS is VERY SLOW. I have another TCL that runs Roku and it's much better. Never getting another Google TV again. Sure, I can just run a 4k ONN box for $20 but doesn't help when I watch live OTA TV channels.
There doesn't seem to be a Roku version of this tv and it seems TCL is moving away from Roku in their latest TVs. Do they have a close equivalent Roku TV that has mini LED?

My 18 month-old U8G has been slowly starting to take a crap and will need to be replaced sooner than later. I know there are lemons from every manufacturer and that it's just bad luck, and yet…

Hisense can suck it. I would absolutely buy this TCL over the U8K.

Just bought one tonight for $720. [ebay.com]

Notes: If you didn't see it already, use code HEADSTART to reduce it to $720. Also, Raise is doing 10% back on eBay gift cards so I stacked the deal with those.
Had it in my cart and it sold out

You're comparing U8H (2022 model) to QM8 (2023 model), not apples to apples to be fair

rtings compare tool results for QM8 vs U8K

https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...shold=0.10

"The TCL QM8/QM850G QLED and Hisense U8/U8K are similar TVs, although the Hisense is a bit better overall. The Hisense has marginally better contrast than the TCL, but the TCL gets brighter than the Hisense in both SDR and HDR. The TCL has a better response time than the Hisense when running at a fixed refresh rate, but with VRR enabled, the TCL's response time varies much more than the Hisense. The Hisense is the more accurate TV of the two, so it looks great without needing to be calibrated. The Hisense also has much better upscaling than the TCL, so low-resolution content looks much better."

Did you update firmware? I believe there were some issues with built in apps on U8G that they fixed via a firmware update over the summer. Probably should use an external device for streaming though honestly.

The firmware version should start with "N" (2023) not "M" (2022) or "L" (2021). If the auto update isn't working, you can now go to Hisense website, provide your serial #, & they will give you a download you can put on a USB drive to update it.

I have a 2013 Vizio that works just fine but damn this is tempting. I feel like any tv from now would feel like such an upgrade

Yeah that's probably an edge lit non-QLED TV.

You'd be stepping up to an 8 series QLED with local dimming & mini LED. Only thing better (in most viewing scenarios) would be an OLED or QD-OLED & you aren't getting one of those under $1k (more like $1200-1300 if you time it right).

Dunno about the seller of the 85" version for $1799. Seems sketchy AF. At least the 65" is amazon proper.

Yeah, I just did that a few weeks ago. There was an update available on their website that the OTA wasn't picking up.

I had been hopeful it would resolve the issues, but no such luck.

If it helps & you're talking 65", it started at $1200-1300 before Hisense came to market.

Both were at $1100 for a while, then I believe Hisense went down to $1000. This drop to $900 kind of came out of nowhere & is definitely the lowest it has been (at least from a reputable big name seller).

I sold my 65U8G to my sister when I got an 85" QN90B for $1600. She still has it though.

I didn't really have too many issues except some ghosting when gaming with certain settings enabled. I think those tend to be inherent with a some VA panels.
