I can't speak for every electric car but most electric cars efficiency is between 3-5 miles/kWh. To see how much range you get per night is a simple math equation. 32A X 240V = 7680kW. Let's then round down to 7kW due to inefficiencies anywhere along the system. Multiply 7kW with 3-5 miles/kWh and you get between 21-35 miles of charging/hour. Let's say you start charging at midnight to maximize on time of use billing and you leave for your work place at 7am. You have 7 hour x 21-35 miles of charging/hour = 147 to 245 miles of charging/night. Batteries may get bigger but efficiency will most certainly improve. Unless your daily commute runs over 150 miles every day, then this charger will suffice no matter how big the battery is. The only factors that matter are the cars efficiency and the length of your commute.

Not bad. Though price is $79 out the door after tax and shipping. Looks like the tax is based on the full MSRP price, not the discounted price.

Why pay hundreds more for 48A if you don't really need it? This is a great deal for 32A and our extended family ordered three last night for existing and future EVs.

48A makes sense if you're splitting between two EVs or drive 200+ miles on a regular basis. AAA reports most people average 30 miles a day. On occasion I will drive 160 miles around town and 32A hasn't been a problem the past four years. It would be great if 48A was available at this price, but it's not. 32A doesn't diminish this spectacular deal.

Through this method they get to can control car charging by initiating charging when electricity demand is low and stop charging when electricity demand is high.. This helps keep grid stability. Of course they have options to override in case you have a trip etc.

I signed up for 'managed charging" on SMUD and I have had zero issues so far. My car charges at some random time between 12 AM- 6 AM and its ready for my departure at 6:15 AM

Umm... Of course L2 charging rates are faster than L1 due to greater amperage, but I think you were referring to the fact that the car determines whether or not there is a charging curve. I don't think there is any EV that will charge without some slowing as it approaches 100% charge.

I don't know if this version shares the same issue but my Juicebox 40 Pro will not work with my Bolt EUV, it will charge for a couple of minutes and then stop. The dual voltage evse that came with the Bolt works fine, as does my Megear L1 evse. The car gives an "unable to charge" error. I've tried limiting the charging current and cleaning the contacts but it makes no difference. I have had no issues charging my i3 rex and i3s or my mom's gen 1 Volt.

Math doesn't add up. It would take 16 hours to completely charge a battery that size from 0-100%.

If my house is prewired for one of these chargers, am I looking at much out of pocket for the install after the $500 credit to install?

Do you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed at your house? If so, then you can buy the plug in version of this charger.
