Well it's the wrong tool for removing lug nuts so that makes sense.

M12 is great for most people, if you need more power you would know. Also, keep in mind this is impact not drill

This isn't the "stubby." Mine was able to take off my lug nuts when I tried (~94ft/lbs), but it's really not meant for that. This is really meant for screws and such as it's an "impact driver." The actual M12 Stubby [homedepot.com] is an "impact wrench" and is meant for auto work. I use that for just about everything on my car.

I just like how small the M12 stuff is, it's expensive but can be had for a good deal when you camp on a "M12" deal alert like I did and just wait for stuff to come up.

I also have a few Ryobi 18v tools mainly from a combo set I bought to round out my needs (jigsaw, recip saw, circ saw, another drill, big impact wrench, etc) and that seems to work pretty well for my basic homeowner/garage mechanic needs.

Yep. I use this for most things around the house. Only time it didnt work was drilling/driving a screw into concrete. Had to get my Ryobi SDS hammer drill and with a SDS concrete bit, drilled thru concrete like butter, Then used this to put in the screw. Confirmed you will know if you need more power.

I don't recall seeing the surge for this cheap. I thought the surge was marketing until I bought a kit with the surge, free tool (got the non fuel ratchet), and 2 batteries for $199. Thought it was a good deal and could have hacked the free tool to save. I have this impact as well and the surge is so much better. I'm replacing a fence currently and I literally look forward to driving screws in!!

Okay honest questions:

2. Assuming M18 only, what's the difference between fuel and non-fuel?

Definitely not an appropriate tool for the job. I had the 150 ft lb DeWalt 1/2" impact and it only worked on every other lug nut, my 1/4" wasn't that strong. My 700 ft lb DeWalt 1/2" impact can take lug nuts off my E-450 bus with plenty of power to spare. Look at the 18V Ryobi 1/2" impact, it's on sale for about the same price. This is basically a compact driver for screws.

If you aren't going to be doing anything that would require a big battery, I'd recommend these. I use it every day as a maintenance man, and they are incredibly light, easy to maneuver, get it in tight places.. worth their weight in gold tbh. The 18v still has its place though, just for bigger jobs.

I have a lot of Milwaukee tools, and I greatly prefer the M12 version of this tool over the M18, because the M12 is a much lighter tool, yet very powerful as a screwdriver, drill and also as a socket driver in automotive work. The M12 1/4" hex drive is my go-to power tool for just about any household work. If I'm packing a small tool bag to help someone at their home, this is the one power tool I bring.

Of course, this tool won't remove wheel lug nuts. For auto work, I have power tools up to a 1/2" impact wrench. But most auto work involves low torque, repetitive small bolt removal and replacement, like on valve covers and similar assemblies. For that you want the smallest and most compact tool. Sometimes, the 3/8" ratchet tool is good, but this pistol grip tool is usually better.

I've had this combo for about 7 years now. I've beat them, dropped them, and put them through rigorous tests and still works like new. No issues whatsoever. I would recommend getting higher AMP batteries though. It comes with 2 1.5AH. They charge fast but also don't last long depending on the job. Brushless is better but not necessarily needed.

You use a high impact wrench for lugs not impact driver.
