FYI I decided to return my ultra 2 watch. Best Buy charged me 32$ for "free" Apple music they automatically added. Just because they emailed me the code. It was ordered as Best Buy "drop".

The battery life has been better on my 2 than it was on my 1, I'm getting ~4 days with AOD disabled (my 1 got ~2.5-3 and was still at 100% health after a year). The brightness difference is noticeable-ish, the upgraded processor has not been aside from power efficiency. The double tap feature isn't implemented widely enough for it to be a game changer yet, though it's nice when I remember to use it. I haven't used the UWB2 "find my phone" feature a single time other than initially trying it out and thinking "neat." The 2 does also have double the storage if that matters to you

The battery life was a welcome surprise to me because workouts (I average 2-3 hours a day of what the watch considers "exercise") used to noticeably drain the battery on the 1, not so much on the 2.

still too expensive. this is already a year old and has been 599 (and no tax) several times, including just a couple months after launch, via shopmyexchange. You can find used ones as low as $400 on r/appleswap r/hardwareswap facebook marketplace etc, some with multiple bands. It's a great smart watch, I've worn mine nearly every day since I bought it in December, just not the best price considering the ultra 2 is not much more and will likely hit the same $599 sale range in the next month or two.

Performance wise, this generation's Apple Watch has a huge improvement over the last generation. The S9 processor is a huge upgrade from the S8.

Keep thinking that, you're exactly the customer Apple loves….again was the ultra 1 slow absolutely not , it's sports watch it doesn't need to do spreadsheets etc….

Tell us where this new processor speed difference is going to make any REAL difference while hiking, running etc ……absolutely nowhere again it's a fitness watch nothing more…

Same price at Amazon right now for those interested. Ended up being $680 for me and 6% back for Amazon Day Delivery. CCC shows this is the lowest price to date. Agreed that the Ultra is the best version I've had of this watch to date and to me, the minor improvements are not worth the additional $. Not willing to gamble around BF or the holidays in hopes I find something better. Thanks to the OP for the lead Peace

Although the S9 isn't a huge upgrade from the S8, it is noticeable. Also, the S8 is basically a rebadged S6 which came out about 3 years ago. The S9 is going to be supported much longer with the S6/7/8 being basically the same chip. I was able to get the Ultra 2 for a little over $100 more and when you're already dropping this much, it's not that much more for something that should last for years as I upgrade my iphone much more frequently than my watch as my last AW was the series 5.

You're completely wrong. The AW9 & Ultra2 are a significant upgrade.

The AW6,7,8, SE2 & Ultra1 all use the same SIP (processor). They haven't innovated in 3 years in this regard. The AW9 and Ultra2 are 60% faster. So much faster they can now process on device Siri. If you've tried to use Siri on your watch on the previous models, you know how slow and pitiful it is. Simply to tell it to turn on my lights, I get wait and "still working on this". But if I do it on the phone it is near instant.
