My thoughts have always been that to HD, they come out ahead when people hack.

1) John hacks item A, Peter Hacks item B = same as John bought A and B = Profit
Or
2) Both John and Peter decide to skip and buy from Ebay or Amazon = No Profit
And also, that's more customers locked into the ryobi ecosystem

It's not even a hack. They prorate the prices on the final receipt. I don't know of any major corporate retailer that forces you to return all items if they prorate the price on the final receipt. You just get the final prorated price refunded, that's all. The only time you ever need to return all items is if it was sold as a bundle and stated as the one item on the receipt; not when separated and itemized like you see with this ryobi deal.

1. HomeDepot has deals with FREE gifts that you can not return as only one item with the price on the receipt.
2. HomeDepot has a promotion with FREE gifts that you can return as there are two items with separate prices on the list. You can ship one to home and another one to store.
3. Everything is the same but you must pick up both in-store or deliver them to your home.

Home Depot knows someone will return the tool or the battery, but someone will keep both.

I added the $99 chainsaw but price stayed at $99 and so did the batteries

QUOTE=whodiini;166570621]LOL. I got the mini chain saw and with that, the batteries were about the same price. So I kept both the chain saw and the batteries. What a deal. Chain saw for $54 and batteries for $36, using a 10% coupon. Decided for $36 for 2 4Ah batteries, not to bother with hacking the deal.[/QUOTE]

I won't do the hack again. My buddy and I both did the hack to get cheap batteries and returned the sprayer or whatever it was. All four of our batteries (separate orders) died early. They won't warranty them because we didn't keep the original tool that was packaged with the deal. I'm convinced that HD does this knowingly as a way to offload defective batteries.
You are supposed to register them on the RYOBI website after purchase via S/N to get full warranty.. don't count on HD for anything.

hack? more like theft, haha. (at least for HD)
I would hardly call this a "hack", or "theft", just a flaw in the return system. Who started calling this a hack on slickdeals is the real question? It's literally just returning items. laugh out loud

Many places do according to some of the other hack threads, but not all of the employees care or know that. All you're doing is taking advantage of that situation, which is no different than criminals that just walk into the store and steal stuff. Just because no employee stops them doesn't mean it's right.
How about the retailers switching prices on you and charging you higher prices on your items at the register? They know most people won't take a picture of the price tag on the shelf for every god damn item you have in your shopping cart, and they'll just nickle an dime every customer they can without batting an eye 🤷🏽

I actually recently got Ryobi to send me a new battery. My battery was part of a combo and I didn't register it until I needed a replacement. Fairly simple process and my old battery started to work again. Hopefully it was a fluke but I got a free replacement anyways.

When I do the pickup on battery and shipping on chainsaw it says "Please make sure promotional items have the same delivery or pickup options and try again".

How to get past that?

I think it's just word mouth marketing. Another form of advertising to think you are robbing them. They still come out ahead by selling it this low. Whatever gets inventory moving. If they didn't want it to happen, they can easily reprogram their system. Or simply reject the order.

Skip share price, their net earnings compounded at 14.66% from 2017-22 (98.2% raw increase), while net sales only increased 56% or 9.3% compounding. Both the company and shareholders are doing -just- fine and have a huge annual return. No one should feel bad about taking advantage of a loophole HD allows.

It's not a hack, it's not illegal, and it's not unmoral. The company knowingly allows it.
The milwaukee prices only match other retailers like amazon, etc after the HACK.
