This is not a slick deal in my opinion. It's gaming the system. Basically theft on a technicality. Downvote me if it eases your conscience, but people doing this are the same people who bought tvs and returned them every year when Costco had their awesome warranties. They eventually took those away because of losers who do this kind of crap. Be prepared for Home Depot to raise ryobi prices for everyone.

I work developing websites. They know. Trust me, their db team and fe and QA team should know. Lol all these years of doing this and it's still possible only means one thing . If they did any analytics on sale vs items and money isn't adding up, they will know. With a simple db query they will see all the cancellations.

it would be very easy to add logic sproc to not allow cancellations under certain conditions or even in the fe , unless their development team is incompetent, but I doubt that.

some money is better than no money.
I heard they been doing BOGO for over 10 years.

What a ridiculous take. Add the items to your cart and you'll see that HD gives the sale price explicitly for each individually. "Theft" jfc corporate worship is bizarre.

I have the same issue that the order doesn't show up for a couple of hours. Just have to pick up at the store and cancel the tool when you are picking up at the store.

Update: the order finally show up online after 3 hours placing the order but it will only allow to cancel the whole order and not individual item.

No hack was used - bought the two batteries (plus charger) with chain saw (reg: $149) for $99. Sold chainsaw locally for $95.

To those claiming that this is theft- let's keep in mind that by executing this deal, Home Depot is putting more Ryobi batteries in your home, which are only compatible with Ryobi tools, which are only sold by Home Depot. Even giving these away for free ensures that consumers will become increasingly loyal, coming back to THD to buy more Ryobi power tools. And while the grease gun is sold out, there's a 6-inch pruning saw for $149 that is almost as slick as the OP's.

You should pay everything at MSRP if you want to avoid potential "stealing" . You never know if those discounts were accidental….
No. I thrive on discounts. But this is way beyond looking for a discount. You should shop at my local grocery store. They have a lot of buy one get one free offers. You could take two, then return the one you "bought" and walk away with $0 grocery bill. Then the grocery store can raise prices for everyone else to cover the loss. If that sounds fair to you, well, I'm not surprised.

HD knows exactly what people are doing, but I am sure it is such a small percentage of sales that it doesn't matter. They could change it at any time to require both items for the returned instead of listing a prorated price, but they don't.
I work in the ecommerce space (not HD) and yes, we know about this stuff. We actually use Slick Deals to find and figure out how people are "hacking" the transactions. I don't know HD's internal stance on this, but I'd guess this type of deal isn't big enough for them to care. It's probably also a deal from Ryobi so HD doesn't actually take the hit.

I'm sure most ppl won't do this because they have a conscience and only a small percentage do this. Still doesn't make it right. It's like saying it's ok to rob a house because the owner forgot to close the door Smilie
Home Depot only posted 4.66 billion in profit for Q2... Because of scumbags like us. Oh what shame I feel

Just get them delivered to your house and return the tool to a store. Returns are pretty easy; go later at night for a return if you have any anxiety as late shift workers care even less. For me, a return is better than not picking up an online order as I've had my order sit at a store a looong time and not get automatically cancelled; I finally picked up that order and returned it.

Your choice but I'd do shipping. Then it's just one trip to the store for the return.

Your three options are (1) try the return at a different store, (2) return it at this same store at a different time (late in the day, see reply above), or (3) simply return both items.

You buy the $99 battery and add the most expensive "free" tool which is currently the $149 blower or chain saw. Home Depot will prorate both the battery and tool to equal $99. So the battery would be $40 and the tool $60. Then return the tool and you end up with a $40 battery kit.
Thank you!
