You can set an alert to email/text you when the balance hits a certain amount (say $2700).
thats a good idea (but I assume that only works for one statement period, not total accumulated spend amongst separate statement periods).

Good info. Thanks. SWA Devaluing RR points by 4%. IMHO that makes it even more important to take these deals only when they are offered at higher amounts (such as the 75k here).

To me, the flexibility of Southwest RR points and booking flights I might cancel is really where the value is for me. My schedule changes. Also, the earlier you book, the better deal you usually get.

Only six (6) days left on this offer. My Chase approval for the individual card took 2 weeks this time, which is unusually long for me, but it recently came through so that was good.

Yes, if/when you pay off your full statement balance, you would have to lower the alert threshold to
3K - balance paid off - buffer.

Is there a way to check when was the last time you've received the bonus points?
e.g if I've received the bonus points on 02/23/2022, it's that means I am not qualified & apply? or can I apply & try not to spend 3k until my 2 yrs anniversary. is the bonus that was given out as companion pass promo also counted? TIA.

Chase statement history or
Rapid rewards swa online history

If you received bonus points within 24 months, you should wait to apply another time. You would probably be rejected.

Does anyone know if I spend above the limit during the statement period and do a refund to bring under the limit will it trigger the bonus point in the same statement period? In other words, will they consider the refund while calculating the spending limit ( $3000 or $5000 depending on the card type)?

Does it matter which SW persona card you get in order to qualify for the companion pass?

I am not 100% sure, but my recollection is that refunds or credit backs do NOT offset the spending for qualification purposes. Does anyone else have any specific experience with this?

Doesn't matter which you get. Some prefer the lower annual fee card and some like having the benefits of the other

that's what I'm wondering. I know there's another thread on this site specifically about that but it's not a great deal, just their normal one. I don't want to bite on this and have a great CP offer come up like it sometimes does this time of the year.
Yes, you want to hit the spend as close over the new year as possible to maximize the window of companion pass. If you hit the spend this year, you only get this year and next vs. if you hit the spend in January you'll get a full 24 months.

This happened to me and I went over $3000 during the statement period due to a merchant transaction issue (charged twice for a laptop and issued a refund )in December. It triggered the bonus point in December for one card. Dont think I can qualify to apply for any additional cards since I already got approved for 1 personnel and 1 business card in november. Could I apply for another business card in Feb next year? My second card bonus will be posted in January 2024. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I met the $3,000 minimum spending requirement on my Southwest personal credit card in December 2023, even though my statement period does not end until mid-January 2024. I have two questions:

1) Will the points from meeting the minimum spending requirement post to my Southwest account in December 2023 or January 2024?

2)Does meeting the minimum spending requirement in December 2023 counts towards earning the Southwest Companion Pass in 2024 and 2025 (or just 2023 and 2024)?

I also have a Southwest business credit card where I plan to meet the minimum spending requirement in January 2024.

My opinion...you should be okay because points normally post at the statement close date. (Personally, I would have waited to complete the spend until early January---just to not give Chase a chance to screw me, but I think you are okay)

As to question 2...the companion pass qualifying is based upon when the points hit your SWA Rapid Rewards account. And companion point qualification resets each Dec 31/Jan 1

Therefore, you want both sets of points to post in 2024 so you get both individual and business bonuses in 2024 to your Rapid Rewards account to get you over the top on Companion Pass for early 2024.

[[ IF YOU HAD one card hit its bonus in December, you'd get to keep the points of course, but the 'companion pass qualifying' issue would reset on Dec 31, and you would have missed that opportunity to use them in 2024 for companion pass qualifying.]]
