These are good to kill small flying insects such as fruit flies and small flies. These use blue LED and not UV lamp (which is expensive). The LED lasts 3-12 months and the replacement LEDs are sold for 3 for $18. For this to be successful in removing flies, place it near the fruits etc and make sure all other lights are off. If the blue light is the sole light bugs notice, this will be very successful. I have connected it to a WiFi plug and set a timer for this to turn ON at 11
PM every night and turn off the 6 AM.

Not all of us are targeting just mosquitoes—don't really care what the article says tbh. We already spray for mosquitoes. What this zapper is highly effective at is killing June bugs and moths from smacking our faces during summer months.
My kids tend to leave doors open and I got tired of all sorts of bugs in the house so I bought a different model (same concept) and have it on a smart switch programmed to come on at night.
Maybe you should re-read the article. The article states it's very effective at killing bugs, just not targeting mosquitoes—which is exactly what I said.

Right, they don't bother us—which is why these product are selling and filling consumer demand. lol. Don't confuse yourself with anyone else. They don't bother YOU.
But what if you have little kids and pets that use yard a lot? Are kid/pet safe chemicals still effective?
That depends. The use of pyrethoid pesticides have been labeled "safe" once they are dry. The manufacturers recommend to keep pets and kids away until the product has dried. However, pets such as cats are much more susceptible than dogs. Pyrethoids pesticides are also much more detrimental against pollinators as they can carry it back to the colony.

Use this along with an attractant/lure (see other posts for links).
There are also less..... flashy things. You can find various (relatively small) UV traps that incorporate fans that impinge attracted insects onto a sticky pad. You can also use the lure/bait with those as well. I haven't had great success with the fan/sticky pad type traps but they are smaller and less intrusive.
Recommended not to be used within 25-feet of area intended for human? Thoughts on that?
Looks like you got your answer but to clarify, this recommendation has nothing to do with the light being dangerous to be near (it's not), it's purely because you'll attract bugs to where you are if you are within that distance to it.

Agreed. If you're targeting mosquitos you need a unit with a fan and an attractant. Octenol for 'standard' mosquitos won't work on the ankle biters but the 'BIOGENTS BG-Sweetscent' attractant works wonders. The ankle biters aren't attracted to CO2 but are instead attracted by foot odor which is why they bite at the ankles. I had one of the BIOGENTS fan traps with the sweetscent (that smells like a gym bag on steroids) and caught a ton of them in SoCal. The number of bites I got on my ankles when outdoors in my yard probably dropped by 90%. I think the DynaTrap Atrakta is roughly the same as the sweetscent.

Yes, no-see-ums are attracted to UV light. I bought a DynaTrap after I moved somewhere that had mosquitos and no-see-ums and initially ran it without the UV light because I only wanted to catch the mosquitos and not beneficial bugs. It worked on those but the no-see-ums were relentless. I caved and turned on the UV light and it did a great job cutting down on no-see-um bites. Sorry beneficial bugs.

The issue is that mosquitos aren't attracted to UV but instead CO2 (your breath).
That said, the unit I have came with some swatches of a bait/lure which works very well but DOES wear out/need replacing. Example of this:
