Just logged into account, was shocked by the $125 bill.
$75/mo plan
$35 activation
Surcharges about $10
Tax and Gov fees about $4
Total $125. That's not even counting the $36 device price
Thats normal.. If you cancel within 3 days activation fee will be waivedoff and plan charge will calculated only for those 2 or 3 days..So the final bill would be around $42, if everything goes right

I went to two stores and one said it's not corporate store so can't do it. Then I went to corporate store and they asked me to call 611 and do it over phone. I have an old Verizon gift card with $36 balance on it. So, I came back home paid $36 towards the total bill which was showing around $125. I then called and cancelled the line and the rep asked if I want to keep the phone. I was also told I will get a final bill by snail mail as the rep couldn't get that number. I am good with it as I unloaded my unused Verizon gift card and hopefully will see a bill for 4 or 5 bucks for a day's usage. This is like F U to Verizon as they screwed me last year by charging me for things they shouldn't.

Quick question to those that activated there phone already like I have today, does Verizon charge if you use data by the amount or by the day? Like if I use a few gbs today and cancel tomorrow will they care if I used a few gbs?

I was also planning to buy 2 as new customer. Having second thoughts now. Were these 2 separate transactions?

Just did this deal and wanted to share my experience. YMMV.

I am not a current Verizon customer. I ordered from Walmart Sunday night. Tax was $3 and change. Phone arrived today. Activation was easy and basically completed by the phone itself with a new number. I then set up an account on Verizon.com. There already a bill in the system for a little more than $120 for activation, month of service and taxes. Next bill estimate showed about $80.

After playing with the phone a few hours, I contacted Verizon by chat to cancel the account to make sure I am not charged an activation fee and so that Verizon only bills me the prorated use amount for 1 day. Long story short, Verizon waived the activation fee, charged the full $36 for the phone and gave me a random credit that did not cover most of the monthly fee and taxes. I think at first, they wanted a total of about $70 ($36 plus like $34 in fees). I told the representative that made no sense given that I am cancelling the account within 1 day so the prorated cost should be about 3 or 4 dollars at most. Chat representative gave me the run around but started applying what appeared to be random discounts. At the end of the chat and subsequent follow up phone call, I was able to get the service fee reduced from $34 to $0. Frankly, this was more trouble than it was worth.

Given that Verizon's unlock policy automatically unlocks the phone upon purchase (as opposed to activation), I expect this phone will unlock in 60 days.
