I'm too tired to think this out, so what is the minimal buy-and-get-out with a phone on this?

Can you confirm that the pay off price will be $36? Usually on device payment plans you get a monthly credit and have to pay off the remaining retail balance to cancel. I don't see a monthly credit so I'm guessing this might be different but wanted to double check first.

Why would you pay for 60 days service and activation... instead of 3 days and no activation?

Unlocking happens either way in 60 days.

If anyone is struggling with the buyout, you can also purchase from BestBuy:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/6501377.p

They have the option for one time payment of $49.99; about $13.99 ($49.99 - $36) more expensive vs Walmart's deal
I think from the fine print they will charge tax based off the full retail price.

$0.00 down for qualified customers. Tax on full retail price due at time of sale. 0% APR, Full price: $449.99

Does the one time payment of $49.99 include the $35 activation fee? Based on comparing it to the monthly payment option, it "seems" like it is included:

Does the device need to be activated? Or can I upgrade, and just pay off when I get the phone and keep old phone on my existing line?

to help anyone who's struggling with the buyout in store:

Refer them to their own policy: https://www.verizon.com/support/d...ment-faqs/
Quote :
Can I pay more than my scheduled monthly device payment installment?

No. The only exceptions to making additional payments are:

• To pay off your device. You can pay off your entire device payment agreement balance at any time.*
• If you have an eligible Apple device, you can make the required payment to complete your early upgrade.
• If you're on a device payment agreement established before 5/31/15 (formerly called Edge Up), you can make the required payment to complete your upgrade.

*If it's within the device's 30-day return and exchange period then you can only pay off the device in a Verizon retail store.
It is within the customer's right to exercise the above based on their own policy

Can we generate port out pin in the verizon app for the new line and then port it out to google for $20 and not worry about cancelling with verizon reps, hoping it will auto cancel and the balance $36 be the final bill? Has someone tried this?

I tried chat to pay off and same message, 'cant do it before 14th'. <rolling eyes>

Sounds like many slickdealers are having to fight tooth and nail to get their lines cancelled. 😂
Would have jumped on this deal otherwise

After activated the phone, I disconnected the service immediately via chat. The agent even said I did not own anything. I logged in after that and saw some negative bill number. The estimated bill showed 0. A couple of days later, I get this email saying I still own $85.04. Does anyone get the same email?

Bill summary
Balance past due:$120.61
Current charges:-$35.57
Total due immediately:$85.04

Rep also told me I owe NOTHING, then surprise bill.
I got something similar, except my "Current charges" is $68.61.
They are not refunding me the activation fee.

After looking at the bills on the Bill History page. Apparently, they keep my first bill of $120.61 which would have been if I kept the line. This is a combination of $75/month + $35 activation fee + $1 device monthly payment + $9.61 other fees. The second bill comes as the result of me canceling the line. So they add $35 of the remaining device payment amount for a total of $155.61. The second bill says I get a credit of -$70.57 for 29 days: Oct 31 - Nov 28, hence I get the remaining bill of $85.04, but if you add it back up, it does not make sense because $75/month + $9.61 fees = $84.61 => $84.61/30 days = $2.82/day service. If I have to pay anything then, $2.82 for 1 day of service + $36 device cost = $38.82 instead of $85.04 on the bill.

While canceling the line, the agent also offered me to keep the line for the remaining month for free, but I did not trust them and told them to immediately cancel it because with experience, I know it is very likely they are going to force me to eat the whole month of service later if the line is still active.

Rep told me the surcharges and taxes+fees are not prorated. But they will look into refunding the activation fee
