I'm too tired to think this out, so what is the minimal buy-and-get-out with a phone on this?

Can you confirm that the pay off price will be $36? Usually on device payment plans you get a monthly credit and have to pay off the remaining retail balance to cancel. I don't see a monthly credit so I'm guessing this might be different but wanted to double check first.

Why would you pay for 60 days service and activation... instead of 3 days and no activation?

Unlocking happens either way in 60 days.

No need to even pay off the device first. Simply call and cancel service asap. You have the option to pay the device in full. See attached. Final bill should be automatically generated on its own.

After looking at the bills on the Bill History page. Apparently, they keep my first bill of $120.61 which would have been if I kept the line. This is a combination of $75/month + $35 activation fee + $1 device monthly payment + $9.61 other fees. The second bill comes as the result of me canceling the line. So they add $35 of the remaining device payment amount for a total of $155.61. The second bill says I get a credit of -$70.57 for 29 days: Oct 31 - Nov 28, hence I get the remaining bill of $85.04, but if you add it back up, it does not make sense because $75/month + $9.61 fees = $84.61 => $84.61/30 days = $2.82/day service. If I have to pay anything then, $2.82 for 1 day of service + $36 device cost = $38.82 instead of $85.04 on the bill.

While canceling the line, the agent also offered me to keep the line for the remaining month for free, but I did not trust them and told them to immediately cancel it because with experience, I know it is very likely they are going to force me to eat the whole month of service later if the line is still active.
I am in same situation. I cancelled in day 3. Going to have to figure out what's the details here.

After activated the phone, I disconnected the service immediately via chat. The agent even said I did not own anything. I logged in after that and saw some negative bill number. The estimated bill showed 0. A couple of days later, I get this email saying I still own $85.04. Does anyone get the same email?

Bill summary
Balance past due:$120.61
Current charges:-$35.57
Total due immediately:$85.04
I got same email. Still figuring out next best move

Yes, after the service is disconnected, the chat function on their website is not working anymore, saying I have to call 800-922-0204, but calling the number gets the office is closed when asking to speak to an agent. I guess I have to wait until Monday to call them.

You can log in with your user ID (phone # will not work since it's been disconnected) to check the remaining bill amount

At the time of registration, it prompted you to choose a user ID for your new verizon account

I originally disconnected via chat on day 1. Chat was unable to generate one time link to pay off device.

Day 2 I called billing. They notated the account that activation and prorated service would happen and I should get an approx $45 bill the next day via email (payoff + service fees).

Day 3 I didn't get an email so I called billing back. They said I still owed the $120 but they could see the notes. After trying to get a way to pay off bill, they tried to get me to log in to pay off service from app. I couldn't log in so she reactivated the line without my consent. She said it wasn't working because of the 1st disconnection. She said I needed to go to corporate store to fix.

I went to corporate store and the girl didn't have the option to pay off device on her tablet. I watched her go to the screen and it would gray out the option. She said it can't be paid off within first 30 days. I pressed, and then a more senior rep came over.

He asked if I was ultimately just trying to cancel service and get a cheap phone from "something like slickdeals". I said yes, and he said I should just cancel and then at the end of the billing period the bill would automatically sort out. Introspection he wanted me to cancel via chat again, but then said since I was in the 3 day period, he could try and submit the cancel using "buyers remorse" option on his side. Within 10 seconds, it showed a screen to cancel and it even automatically showed activation waived. He printed a small receipt showing cancel and the phone service went dead immediately.

He was pretty experienced and seemed convinced the first bill would arrive at the end of the billing cycle with the $36 fee plus service charge (the original $45 I was expecting). I asked if I would be asked to return the phone and he said no. He said the first time it was disconnected, it triggered the full $36 payoff in Verizons system and that couldn't be undone.

I wrote down the timestamp of the notes saying service should be prorated in case I have to call billing later, but I'm fairly confident the bill I get will be correct. The system appears to need time to create the bill correctly.

To maximize the 1st month's payment, has anyone tried doing multiple upgrades of the same phone, same line, after they received their 1st one?

with all this hassle to cancell service, isn't it better off getting the $50+$40 = $90 phone from metro? that one, we just need to wait for 2 month to unlock?
