My friend that works at monoprice told me about this deal and has confirmed that most of the subs on this sale are in fact new items. Monoprice are simply trying to meet sale quotas before the end of year. That explains why so many in stock!

I wish they would sell out so I could stop considering these.

As someone whose Monolith 12 v2 amp died after 15 months and is currently going through an RMA process, I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. If it had the full 5 year warranty, it would be tempting.

Edit: 90 day warranty

Although, if the amp goes out, could get a crown external amp. The enclosure and driver are still excellent.
How would you go about that? Run wires ro inside the enclosure?

will 15" pair well with the 13" to smooth out response? (auto with room correction) or is there a lot of tweaking that needs to be done?
I do not think it will be that bad. The response is not that much different.

Those who are suggesting that they could add their own amplifier if the one in the box dies need to realize that is a pretty bad idea.

You need to remember that modern subwoofers have DSPs that have tuned frequency characteristics to match the subwoofer and the enclosure.

Many things can go wrong with your own amplifier such as the subwoofer not having anywhere near the power handling that it did with a tuned amplifier. Also you have a high risk of damage if you push any signals to it below the tuned threshold at which point the speaker doesn't get the suspension benefit of the box and can have over excursion problems.

Modern amplifiers with DSP frequency cutoffs allow them to run the box and subwoofer tuning much closer to the edge of their physical limits.

TLDR be careful.

Please do yourselves a favor by not ordering this. For privilege of carrying this 150lb monster upstairs, unboxing it, reboxing it and returning it to mono price, you are paying $600. That's if you are lucky and fails within 90 days. Otherwise, consider yourself luckier since you would then have a $600 end table.

I bought 2 new monolith 15s. One was DOA. Got a replacement for the DOA unit, then the other one went out in under a month. Returned both and never looked back.

IT WILL FAIL on you. It's just a matter of time. Consider yourself warned.
SVS, thanks for sharing.

ugh, why do I want one of these? I have an epik empire that's still kicking, and while this is ~10db louder with 1/2 the distortion at 20hz, both will get down to 12.5 within CEA2010 limits and I don't push mine full tilt or anything. Great deal for anyone that has the space though, specs are super impressive.

Can I use the coupon twice with two orders? Applying it to 2x qty only takes off a single $15.

From a performance perspective, these two are not even close to the same class (or size/weight). The Monolith 13 will blow the PB-1000 Pro away. The question is whether risking $600 is worth it if your amp goes bad.

Just keep in mind the Monolith 13 is 100lb heavier, 9 inches longer, and 5 inches wider/taller than the PB-1000 Pro.

I've refreshed the page a few times to see how quickly inventory is dropping. Trying not to make a impulse purchase, but it seems to be selling about 1 of these a minute. Have 109 left, so probably gone in less than 2 hours.

Thanks, in for 4 for recently bought 3800H
You'll have to try Audyssey's directional sub integration.
I've been impressed with it with two subs.
It's based on same theory as Dirac ART & Trinnov.

Thanks for the reply, this gives me an idea. I was thinking of two Subs. I don't think I will have space for huge monolith. Will wait for some deals on smaller ones

I've had two open box 15" monoliths for 6 years work perfectly. Like all electronics some fail and others last a decade.

I doubt all the over 200 13" monoliths from this sale are going to fail!
Search for monolith amp failures and DOAs in avsforum/amazon reviews of any monolith subwoofer. Then, show me similar failure rates in any other subwoofer brand.

Even if any other subwoofer brand has the same failure rate, it's easily resolved by just ordering and swapping the amplifier. If it was a product which was easy to return or even throw away, that would have been probably fine too. But not this. Atleast for me.

There is a reason why mono price is selling a $1700 item for $600 open-box. I am yet to see any other open-box product selling for 35% of the new item's price. Maybe you can enlighten me and others.
