These portable heaters have a thermal fuse which often burns up causing them to stop working. I've had the same thing happen in a totally different heater. The fuse can be replaced but it's a major PITA and may require soldering.

Wife bought one last year. Stopped working after a few weeks of use and we couldn't get it to turn on again. Returned it because it was still within the return window

Just picked up one at my T'get - website said 1 in stock but there were 8 or so. Used it to heat up the bathroom - works perfect for that.

Slightly very slightly and they wont get much better, if any at all. Devices designed to provide heat will never be great with energy consumption. In all electrical devices other than heaters, any heat created is considered unwanted byproduct. How much heat an electrical device produces is how a devices efficiency rating is made. An electrical device that is supposed to perform any task, other than provide heat, the ammount of heat it does create is considered wasted or lost energy, or in other words, how efficient it is. Nothing is 100% efficient. That would be an electrical device that performs its task & creates zero heat. So what if the sole purpouse of a device was to only create heat? A very inefficient or a 100% efficient device depending on how you look at it. Since creating what all other devices consider wasted energy is its sole purpouse it can be viewed differently than other electrical device. All the ones that do not want to create heat.
Heat pump has over 100%

And depends on the fuse too. I had a Honeywell heater which had a permanent shut-off fuse. Once the fuse blows there is no provision to replace it and the whole unit is bust. This is something usual for a low price heaters.

Hmm, just tested mine and you are right, still runs when tipped over. Thought that was a mandatory safety requirement for these things, guess not.
I had thought so too. Seems dangerous otherwise. Now debating if that's worth the savings.

I don't have kids or any animals that could tip it over and will keep it on a surface where nothing can happen but otherwise I would probably pass. Maybe there's a shutoff after a minute or so, I will have to look into it but if it can't shutoff at all that seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen for them. Can't believe their legal department would okay that.

I'm not seeing the original price of $49.99 on Targets website. Has the price been permanently adjusted instead of being on sale?
Just saw them in store for 49.99. Got this online the other day and it's been going strong.

Website says online only and it seems they mean that. Guess I'll just order online then. Kinda dumb but whatever.

Has these gotten better with energy consumption? I used to have one in college and my usual electrical bill was around $20 and one month I used these and got over $100 bill
For this technology, they are already as efficient as they are going to get. You have to have a heat pump (either window unit or separate indoor and outdoor unit) to be more efficient using electricity.

This is the only very portable technology option.

Bought the Costco one that's on sale for like $40 and now I don't know if I should have gotten this one instead. I mean, it's good but it dries the air a lot and my throat ends up hurting after about 30 minutes of use.
yea this one on this deal does that also. i think all heater like this does that. it dries out the air

Snagged one. This thing is definitely smaller than they make out in the pictures, but it does put out tremendous heat. decent fan inside of it too so it radiates pretty far. Hoping it lasts longer than the reviews suggest!

I was looking at space heaters after my trusty vornado stopped working. All the new ones are tall and no footing. Super dangerous.

Make sure it has a tip over shut off and over heat protection.

Every time I have asked, Target hasn't given me any issues when it comes to price matching the online price in-store.
