Paying off device on Verizon without speaking to an agent:
- Add a payment method to your Verizon account.
- Dial 611 from the new phone, which should confirm your existing line, or dial 8008374966 and provide the phone number/PIN
- Say "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts
1. you can activate the phone on new line
2. Pay off the phone via verizon customer service or in cash at verizon corporate store.
corporate stores are inclined not to take payment in cash. they may be aware of what folks are doing . thus they try to make it hard for you.
if corporate store denies u. politely but firmly insist u spoke with rep of verizon. and they assured u this can be done in corporate store. if still denied, ask for manager. if still denied, go to another corporate store.
3. cancel the line within 3 days and no activation fee . Pro-rated charges for line for 1-2 days only. do not worry about what bill says.
4. Phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days. No matter you use it on existing VZN line or keep it in drawer . even if u r no longer a customer , since u cancelled in three days. the phone will still unlock.
5. new customer, there will be a credit pull .most likely soft. existing customer. most likely a soft credit pull. remember this is post paid service.
6. if existing customer. consider: adding a line. then follow steps above, u can also simply port out the line u opened up. effectively cancelling the line. and not effecting the other lines on your account.
(Note: this trick is for IPhone only and will not work with A54)
I can confirm the AT&T trick is working with a Verizon phone. It doesn't matter whats going on with your Verizon account. Paid off, not paid off, no account, canceled or not. This is concerning your DEVICE. You should pay the $299 as soon as you can find someone to take payment lol and cancel your line to stop the prorated monthly charges.
1. Under no circumstance, do NOT put the Verizon sim card into the phone unless you want a 60 day lock.
2. Ok let's free our
3. First phone boot was with the AT&T card. In settings, about device showed sim locked.
4. Visit https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and click "start an unlock request"
5. Choose no mobile number from AT&T and enter the IMEI from setting, about. Don't enter the IMEI2 which is for your phones esim.
6. Check your email & junk folder to click link from email to "confirm your request". I got email nearly immediately that my unlock was approved.
7. Now reset the phone. I left the AT&T sim in it. Now the phone shows no sim restrictions. Note you might not have to do the reset. I read that just changing the sim should cause the phone to show no sim restriction but I reset mine.
8. Put whatever sim in it you would like.
9. I actually bought a 2nd phone that is still in the mail so I plan to try to reuse the same sim though I'm not sure if it will work.
AT&T
ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.
1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, rebo[SIZE="4"]ot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.
For ATT cancel line without talking with a human:
1. write down your account number. Call *7678 from your ATT number to get the transfer pin.
2. Use your just unlocked iPhone 13 esim to activate a free trial at US Mobile to transfer your number. https://www.usmobile.co
3. After you submit transfer request, check your ATT phone message, it will ask you reply some number to confirm the transfer. After that, resubmit your transfer request again.
Updating Warranty Coverage
Your phone may show up as Coverage Expired after setting up. This is normal and not necessarily a sign the phone is used.
- Go to checkcoverage.apple.com [apple.com]
- Log in to your Apple ID or enter the IMEI
- Select the device and click the option to call Apple
- Upload your Walmart invoice and/or your coverage agreement. For Verizon customers, there are quite a few Customer Agreement under "Account" -> "Bill" -> "Document and Receipts", there is one has device id on it and it's the IMEI of the phone. Make sure back up it first since it could be gone after the line gets canceled.
- Submit the form and speak to the agent.

After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.
THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

Do I just buy a A54 phone off of ebay and switch it that way?
Existing customers:
1) Requires 0% APR 36-month installment agreement and eligible service.
-this translates to your monthly payment plan on the cell phone is whatever the final price is divided by 36. The eligible service part depends on if you are a new or existing customer. More on this later.
2) Some fine print of the ATT Installment Plan with Next Up. I won't go this route, so I don;t care about this fine print.
3) Eligible service:
-New Customers: "Minimum $50 per month after AutoPay and paperless billing discount for new customers. Pay $60 per month until discount starts within 2 bills."
Existing Customers: "Existing customers can add to eligible current post-paid plans which may be less"
4) "If service cancelled, remaining device cost balance is due. Activation or upgrade fee due at sale or billed: $35. "
-No talk about early termination fee since you are not signing a service contract.
Best option to buy an unlocked on ebay and bring it to att?
Walmart is selling the iphone 13 for $300. Sign-up to put it on an installment plan.
If you cancel (which you should), you are obligated to pay off the phone.
Same procedure if you did signup where iphone 15 was free and on installment plan. If you cancel before the installment plan is complete, you are obligated to payoff the remaining balance on the phone.
ATT has a 14-day policy to cancel account / new line / upgrade.
This Walmart deal doesn't make you sign a service agreement, so "You won't have an ETF if you're on an installment plan or Equipment Installment Plan. You will be responsible for the balance on your installment plan if you cancel.

So sign up for that one to ensure you meet the requirements. Otherwise, might have to haggle
Also, someone mentioned that the VZ iphone might be gsm unlocked, is that true?

The good thing about this deal is device balance equals $299 minus whatever installments you've already paid.
Meanwhile, for most carrier trade-in deals that just give you monthly credit, device balance equals $599 minus installments already paid.
That said, I don't think it's worth the hassle if you just want the iPhone without postpaid service. This a decent fairly no strings attached deal for current AT&T/Verizon postpaid customers wanting to upgrade from even older iPhones (e.g. 8 Plus, XR).

there is no termination fee.
not the correct term.
only adds to confusion of folks that may already be confused as to the deal.
there is a device payment plan. which becomes due immediately upon cancellation

I activate with Walmart with either AT&T or Verizon. Once completed the phone is sent to me and the 'timer' starts on cancelling before you're locked in. I can either pay off the device in store during that time, or possibly do a 'port out' on the new number and it will automatically cancel the line, even with the phone still en route to me.
With either carrier it would then cause them to send a final bill to me in the following month, which would include the prorated amount of the plan used so far and the $299 price of the phone if I didn't pay it off in store.
Hope that makes sense, please correct anything I've gotten wrong -- I'm just wanting to get a clearer understanding on what to expect after reading the previous 10 pages or so.
