I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

Ya this is also the conclusion I've come to.
11/8 purchased
11/9 shipped and Verizon document shows it was activated 11/9
11/9 I paid off with CS on the phone after some push reading the contract. Though I show a payment and the device charge is now removed from the bill, I hope she did it right.
11/10 day 2, sit on my hands
11/11 day 3, turn on device, make a phone call, transfer number out to USMobile which will cancel the line. I like the number and I think Verizon's number pool might be older so hopefully less spam.

Note: USMobile shows the IMEI currently as good so it appears that it would let me start service on the device. The question is, is it because the device hasn't been turned on? Maybe never turning on the device may to our benefit?

Didn't @foxblur say that he will turn on the device and make a phone call on day 3? Does that not count as turning it on?

This is my plan. So yes. But originally I was going to cancel line while in transit. Even though the IMEI and SIM are on my account, a few people have urged that the phone needs to be used on the network before canceling or it may never unlock. So I will heed their advice and wait to cancel.

Agree, at the most you lose $35 and one or two more days of prorated charge, but have a sure shot of device unlocking after 60 days.

Is there anyone who bought this for their ATT existing line as an upgrade? I'm thinking of replacing a beat up Iphone 11 with this, but want to make sure it's as easy as: Order (as an upgrade), receive phone, pay off phone (is it through walmart or att?), get it unlocked in 60 days. I don't want my line to be tied down to a contract. Essentially, buy the phone, pay it off, and keep my monthly bill the same.
Yes, this is what I did, the phone did not shipped yet, but supposedly it's going to be delivered tomorrow, which would mean it would have to be shipped next day here, which I highly doubt.

I'm wondering. Is day 3 on the activation fee refund is that 3 days from the order date or 3 days from the shipped date? Cause it seemed like the Verizon account wasn't created until the phone shipped and the IMEI was recorded.
11/8 I ordered. 11/9 I got shipping confirmation/tracking and an email from Verizon about account, phone will be delivered tomorrow 11/11. so that would be 3 days from 11/9 at least so maybe still within the activation fee refund period?

Weird. My friend tried the VZ and Walmart cancelled the orders twice. I tried it (for him) and I got canceled as well. Not sure why. Called Verizon and they said I'm good on their end. Not sure about why Walmart cancelled my orders.

Yes, that is correct. I had this mistake before. I had the phone unwrap to be given as gift and it didn't get unlocked.

3 days from the order date.
Well that presents a dilemma. Risk the unlock or eat the $35 activation fees

Do we know for sure it must connect to be activated?
I'm pretty certain. I read Verizon's unlock policy again. If the phone is directly purchased from Verizon store, it's 60 days from purchase date. if the phone is purchased from reseller (in this case, it is), it's 60 days from activation. so there is a difference. In the past, I had experience of Verizon phone failing to activate after turning on due to unstable wifi. So the phone has to connect to Verizon server to activate. There is no way around it.

To avoid calling customer care , now this deal is available at store so try to purchase from store. They will accept upto 99% of the payment as down payment in store , which you can pay using credit card. Then rest of the amount around $3-$5 , you can pay via IVR or at store in cash. No one will ask question as they will see the amount owed is very less.

Call customer service to cancel the line or simply port out the line same day. You will be under 3 days and will not have activation charges.

Also , using above , there is less chances of abusing the VZN system so in case , we have same kind of deal in future , VZN or walmart will not put any kind of restriction and everyone will be able to take benefit again.

I hope this make sense. Again , try avoid calling CS to get restricted next time. I am putting this warning as it took me almost 6-8 months to get my SSN of their blocked list.
So this deal is available at the Verizon store now?
