I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

Well shit
11/8 phone purchased
11/10 phone finally shipped and we know it gets activated then
11/14 expected delivery
Even if I was planning to keep the phone, I would be pissed getting charge for 5 days of service while the phone was being shipped. Anyways looks like I'll be getting charged 5 days of service and a activation fee before I am able to cancel.

So you ordered the phone with a new line even though you had an existing line @ att?
none of my other lines were eligible for an upgrade. so I had to add a new line, not a new account.

This activation upon shipment is so dumb. I can't even add a 2nd line since the 1st line is still in shipment and they force me to provide a code sent to that 1st phone. Whomever made there system and policies work like this, didn't think this through

My story:

1. 11/8 ordered the Verizon Phone

2. 11/9 delivered, put an old ATT SIM and turned on the phone. It shows being locked to ATT. Used the ATT trick to unlock the phone in 5 minutes.

3. Tried this 611 approach later 11/9 night, it didn't work initially. The bot always sent me a url via message which redirected me to Verizon App and it kept saying I cannot pay off.

To pay off the phone for VZ, you don't really need to talk to any agent.
Just follow the following steps
1. Add credit card you want to pay to the online account for autopay
2. Dial 611, and ask for agent (not sure whether you have to do that), then the bot will ask you specific details. You just say "pay off device"
3. The bot will say something like he can help, and then just let him proceed. He will confirm the account and the credit you will use.
4. Then you are all done.

----
I chatted with several agents today, and I got even confirmation saying the device was paid off, but it was not. Finally I figured out an easy way.
4. Tried the above approach again this morning, it worked magically this time! Guess it answers differently within or out of working hours.

5. Called 611 again to cancel my line. All set.

Thanks for all the help. Saved me the trip to Verizon store.

Yes, the famous AT&T trick.

611 is the service number you can call from any Verizon cell phone.

success canceling line ATT. phone is a replacement for a broken phone, so I wasn't worried about unlocking or anything.

08Nov 0905am - ordered phone
09Nov 10am - paid entire installment online
09Nov 11pm - received phone that was already activated
10Nov 930am - installed SIM to confirm phone appears in online profile, called ATT to cancel. was told no charges expected. own a new iPhone 13 for $299+$23 in taxes
My order is still in preparing. I'm with ATT and see a new line as activate your device. How did you pay entire installment online?

Called in via the IVR (described in earlier posts) and was able to pay off the device without any issue.

I received and activated the phone.

Immediately after activation I used the Verizon app to chat with a rep. I requested the line be cancelled effective immediately. She cancelled the line without any issues and confirmed I would only be billed for the couple of days of service. I then received an email confirming the cancellation.

Agreed. It's messed up that the service starts before device arrival. It seems easy for VZ to implement the service start date to when you actually receive the phone.

I haven't been on postpaid for almost a decade, and service start dates for prepaid carriers occur upon SIM activation (haven't done many eSIMs on prepaid yet, but I presume it's a similar process).

I must be doing something wrong haha. Called the 800-837-4966 number, entered Verizon number, then pin, said I wanted to "pay off device" then it mentioned something about a $10 agent fee and to press 3 to continue via chat or press 1 instead. I pressed 1 then it connected to me a person. Doesn't seem like the automated tool recognized my command.

the agent wasn't able to find a way to force buyout and said I had to either wait 14 or 30 days or go to a Verizon corporate store to pay off.
