yea people dont realize the FE series is a powerful phone, way better than the A5x series samsung phones. An dthe trade in value for the FE phone stays strong even 2-3 years later.

you don't need 180 days service, only pay it for the order, 180 days later after activation, you will be able to get unlocked...

I actually like all the moto phones I've had, but the updates or lack thereof keeps me away

Thanks for confirming. Guess I'll keep trying.

I believe you will always get this as its still a Metro firmware. I typically flash the generic U1/XAA firmware once I unlock a phone. For US FW, you can get it at https://www.sammobile.com/samsung...711U1/XAA/ Also gets rid of all the bloatware from the provider.
How exactly do you flash the firmware? Any risk of bricking the phone?

There's always chance of bricking for any flashing. Lots of youtube videos or instructions on the web if you wish to try. Generically, the steps are also at sammobile [sammobile.com]

Can confirm that this works. I just flashed it with the XAA version and it did indeed remove the metro stuff.

1. Carrier-Unlock the phone
2. Download the PATCHED Odin3 tool
3. Download the XAA firmware. I used this link: https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-S711U1/XAA
4. Extract the firmware zip file
5. Put your phone into "Download mode": Turn it off, then hold both volume up+down buttons and press and hold the power button. A screen with chinese will pop up. Press the volume up button to continue to the next screen. Then connect your phone to your computer where you have the PATCHED Odin3 tool.
6. Now that you have your phone connected. Open the PATCHED Odin3 tool. One of the rectangles in the top half of the window should be colored and show something with "COM". This indicates that the tool recognizes the phone
7. On the right hand side, click the button BL and pick the extracted file that starts with BL_
8. Do the same with the buttons AP and CP
9. IMPORTANT: For CSC, pick the extracted file with the name HOME_CSC_. This ensures none of your data gets deleted! do NOT pick the CSC_ file, pick the one that begins with HOME_CSC_!
10. Click the start button and wait until it completed. Do NOT touch your phone or move the cable or do anything that could cause the connection to somehow be interrupted.
11. After 4-5 minutes your phone will restart and the Metro logo will no longer show up. Keep in mind that the first boot will take a bit longer, so be patient.
12. If it doesn't prompt you to switch the service provider for your sim: Go into Settings->Connections->WIFI Calling, change the preference to "Wifi preferred". This will trigger a prompt to switch the mobile profile. Do the switch, which will trigger a reboot. This ensures that the entire mobile stuff switches to whatever your SIM needs. Feel free to change the WIFI calling preference back to the previous selection after it came back.

does flashing it give you more capabilities on the phone or remove capabilities?

Not too sure I understand yr Q. Our phones come with U fw. U1/XAA is the unbranded factory fw from Samsung. Its the same flashing process as @Tbl5143 posted

U1/XAA will bring your phone back to the same look/feel of a standard unaltered Samsung phone without all the Metro specific apps. My current phone is the S22 from TMo and I could not get wifi calling to work on Tracfone service. Once flashed, TF recognized the phone as std unbranded Samsung and wifi calling then worked. So yeah, it added capabilities for me.

Update:
Swapped Sim card from the Metro by Tmobile to my Prepaid Tmobile, no issues.
Splash screen is Tmobile, no evidence of Metro on Splash screen.

Samsung U firmware is able to 'adjust' to the SIM currently in the phone, so that is expected. I believe it asks for a reboot to complete the change when you start the phone with a new SIM for the first time.

It didn't when I put my Mint sim into it, which is also T-Mobile. While everything was working fine, the Metro boot logo was still here as well as their apps and custom stuff. Had to flash the U1 XAA to get rid of it.

Wait so even after flashing stock Samsung firmware it will download and install your new carrier's boot screen and bloat ware?

No, U1 firmware stays stock regardless of the SIM.
