Been swapping for years. Basically just switch between parties at same location via different emails and can even use different CCs if you wish. Doesn't matter even if other party is second, just can't go primary party to primary party w/o it being a renewal or breaking the listed rules. Same applies to Sam's Club.
It can make it messy, but as long as you keep proof of the membership number it was purchased under, never been a problem. They don't say can't return just because your membership is expired and don't have to have a current one to return stuff. Pro tip: Take pictures of reciepts as they often fade and while it isn't a big deal if bought under current membership, it makes it difficult if you do get new number every 12-18 months.
If I live alone and have a current membership that will expire soon. Can I just change my email address to sign up for a new membership?
You pretty much have to wait 18 months AFTER EXPIRATION to be considered a new member for this promotion. You have to show ID at the counter to sign up, so they know it's you.
Just buy a bunch of Shop cards and wait 18 months (or whatever) for the next deal.
I was at a Costco checking out. The cashier came to me and wanted to check my picture on my membership card! I was so annoyed! They wanted me to spend money at their store and pay for membership too! But I guess they wanted to make sure no one else spends money at their store, I guess!!
....It's a membership store where a majority of their profits come from membership, so yes they want to ensure only the cardholder is using it to shop Wouldn't you be annoyed if they were letting everyone go with anybody's card and you had to pay for yours?

costco is only worth it for a family of 4 or more. the 1-household-person saying otherwise simply hasn't compared their 5 year supply case of half-gallon ketchup bottles to a bottle at walmart.
I am a one person household, and all you need is a bit of room for storage. Obviously some perishable items are a possible problem, but there are MANY other things a typical person would need. Just last week on a costco trip I bought paper towels, laundry detergent, dish soap, tissues, vitamins, light bulbs, a chicken...lots of stuff. On average about 30% cheaper than the same stuff from Walmart.

Took out the membership offer last month.
First 3 items i went to order online had shipping charges.
I checked out some random appliances to see if they would have shipping charges---worse, they were not shippable .
Canceled the membership in days. Did not get a gift card---the point is: the gift card is not instant delivery.
What difference does it make? It's not like it's going to go bad. Unless you mean, do I actually make enough trips to make the membership worthwhile, in which case, yeah, I do. A lot of those things will be a year's supply, but there are still lots of other things to buy. Also, most perishable items don't really come in the huge quantities that people like to joke about. Most items are about double the size of the standard Walmart offering, which is rarely a problem to deal with.

Is Costco worth it if you do not have one near you? i.e for mail orders?
I'm questioning the same thing. The prices are good onlnie, and you get Costco stuff, but most items seem to be "2 day shipping" only, and even with membership, that gets hit with a $3 / item fee unless you hit a certain threshold
Can confirm that the 18 months lapse of membership does not work with this promo for me either. I left a message for the stacksocial customer support that they need to remove the 18 month disclaimer if it no longer applies (my membership lapsed 4 years ago and Im signed up on the visa autopay according to the directions, however promo code does not work). Also am hoping to get a refund. Posting my experience to save those who are reading the comments time and frustration.
Just a clarification to my previous post.. I was swapping primary and secondary memberships with my spouse each time (every 1.5 years) to get the promo, but it seems that this method no longer works. This is why the 18 month rule for the promo code wasnt working for me (they were able to see me listed as a secondary account holder on a more recent membership). Hope this isnt too confusing, it was to me thats for sure 😂

Personally I would say no. Obviously you can browse the website for yourself and see if you would be buying a lot, but IMO Costco's online game is poor.

I'm also a secondary member under another friend membership.
All my Searches right now have only led to other 18month stipulations. I'm sure of what I saw this summer...
but I can't find the link anymore. Swear I saw it here. Please post a link to that for reference if you do find it.
