New M3 base model is fairly crippled @1599. Don't get me wrong, will work for 80 percent of people but grab this for 1399 with the warranty. And don't look back.

M3 1599 has one less TB port, only supports 1 external monitor, slower memory bandwidth, slower SSD and less memory 512 vs 1tb. Get this and grab the M3 pro or Max later.

FY1 M3 pro a step back from M2 pro less P cores and more E Cores, also has less graphics cores unless you get the non binned upgrade. M3 Max is the real show stopper upgraded in every way from the M1 or M2. But it is $$$. I say grab this and wait for a refurb M3 Max in 3 months! or grab this and wait for M4 pro /Max later. You will love life now and even more later! Cheers!

This is incorrect, I bought the last FP Amazon/Woot deal and after a quick three minute call with Apple they updated the purchase date and I could purchase AppleCare. This is straight from Woot's own FAQ page if anyone is curious:

"Apple (New with Apple Warranty and Apple Factory Recertified)
Important: Please charge Apple notebooks for a minimum of two hours prior to initial use. Apple products lose charge over time and the unit may not turn on out of the box. Apple notebooks will not work if the battery is low, even if the unit is plugged in so it may require a significant charge before it will start up.
Registration happens at the time of initial start-up. Please answer questions upon initial start-up to register your Apple product.
You may be asked to provide proof of purchase to reset warranty dates.
You can do this at: https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT202703
If Apple declines to reset the warranty after you provide proof of purchase, contact Apple Care at 800– 275–2273 for assistance. Make sure you get a Call Case number from Apple when talking to them.
If Apple still doesn't reset the warranty, please contact Woot customer service. You must provide the Apple Call Case number and the product serial number. Woot customer service will work with the vendor to escalate the issue with the Apple Support team.
Warranty Service: If your Apple computer needs service, please contact Apple by visiting https://support.Apple.com or call Apple Care at 800–275–2273."

This for $1369 or the crippled brand new $1599 14.2" M3 (non-Pro) with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD? (Note, the M1 Pro model has much faster SSD and apparently more memory bandwidth than the new M3 model).

It's rhetorical for me since I bought this for $1399 from Amazon, got 90 day returns, and my warranty turned out to already include AppleCare+ until 2025.

The only thing appealing to me on the new M3 is the Space Black color, and that's only available with M3-Pro/Max chipped MBPs.

I'd say stick with what you already got. It'll last you longer than the M3-base MBP.

Good price on a good configuration - similar M3 Pro config would run $2,200.

These probably have 5+ years of life left in them despite being 2 years old already (depending on your computing needs). I've had mine since day 1 - just over 2 years now - and have no regrets.

A question worth asking, if deciding between base M3 MBP and this: "what kind of tasks or workloads can I do on the base M3 that this upgraded M1 Pro machine either can't handle at all, or would perform considerably worse than the former?"

I can't think of any, save for select benchmarks (leveraging single core performance and NPU). Can you?

See above. Performance the M1 Pro will be ahead multithreaded workloads. If you need more than 1 monitor, go M1 Pro.

The M3 has vastly improved graphics subsystem, so if you do graphic intensive workflows. The M3 base may have a slight lead. But the 16GB of RAM and faster memory sub system and more storage is the M1 system will have huge benefits. I would still save the cash and go for the M1 Pro over the M3 base. We should see tests online Friday. You can always grab the deal and return if online reviews show your favorite app performs better on the M3 with 8gb of RAM.

If you are upgrading from 8 to 16GB of RAM it's $1799 so DONT do that, grab an M3 pro @ 1799 for all the added items at the same price of the M3 base w 16GB of RAM. Cheers !

Nice find, also 512gb storage is only 1250… which is crazy good deal.
